VRS Octy Mk1 owner, becoming a Mk2 owner on Wednesday!!!

Featured Replies

Hi, I am a current owner of a Corrida Red Mk1 VRS hatch, 03 plate and 46000 on the clock.

I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and am swapping my car for a brand spanking new Race Blue Octavia VRS Mk2 hatch, with metallic paint, climate and jumbo box, and cruise.

Had the Octy Mk1 for two and a half years, and despite a few problems ( due to previous owner ) and rubbish dealer service I am still smitten with the brand.

Would have kept the Mk1 as it is still a cracking looking car ( better than the new one if I'm honest ) but needs new brakes/pads, cambelt and three tyres.

With the offer of three years free servicing on a new one I couldn't resist, especially after driving one for a few hours:devil: - had to chisel the grin off my face !:)

How Skoda have made something so comfy so fast is beyond me !

I have been umming and ahhing over whether or not I did the right thing choosing a blue one over silver, as both were in the final running, but think I have done the right thing ?, the new VRS is quite plain, and in my book needs a bright and unusual colour to lift it above the silver private hire tdi classics that are prevalent around Leeds !

I am also wondering if I will regret the choice of petrol over diesel ?

I knew the diesel was coming out this year, and waited six months to test it, before chossing a petrol after all.

Having taken one out for just three hours my opinion was basically that yes it was very fast, but the torque was in too narrow a band, and ruined what to me is one of the strengths of a VRS over a Type R, i.e. the fact that you can potter about in sixth at 30mph knowing that you can pull away without dropping to second.

Admittedly the diesel was always going to be a little like this, but the 140 PD Elegance I drove was a great and flexible car, so why was the VRS PD so rubbish ? ( not to mention nose heavy and noisy ).

Anyway, I am wondering if the cargo net and boot liner from my old car will fit the Mk2 ? and more importantly will the McGard locking wheel nuts from my Octy Mk1 VRS fit the new Mk2, or will I be selling them on eBay ?

I have tried the McGard website, but it is rubbish.

Any replies welcome.

Peace.

Jonny M.

Jonny - Welcome to Briskoda.

I'm glad to see you've seen the light and chosen the right colour!!

I'm sorry I can't answer the questions you ask definately but I would say you'll be fine with the wheel bolts and the nets will probably stretch. The proper net kit for the MK II is only about £25 and you get two in the kit.

Welcome to Briskoda

Hi, and welcome

Cheers for the replies, made me feel welcome.

Two days now !

Will probably shed a manly tear when I lock up the Mk1 and walk away for last time tho'

That will soon fade when you drive off in the MKII and you'll grin from ear to ear. :D

Anyone got any opinions on how long I should spend "running in" ?

Only second ever brand new car ( first was clio diesel in 1993 ! )

Usually buy ex-demos, so not sure how gently to treat this one - but want it to last a long time.

Also, any idea how much oil I should expect to use ? and what type anyone recommends ?

Don't want to buy from Dealer's , they've had enough out of me ?

The oil is Castrol Edge and it's marked for use in VAG cars. 5W 40 IIRC, expect to pay around £14 per litre!!

Running in is a subjective issue, I don't think there is any doubt that a car which is driven hard from the beginning will produce more power.

Welcome to the site Jonny.

Hopefully we will see you at one of the Lancs/Yorks mini-meets. These are held on the second Thursday of the month at the Turnpike Inn near Scammy dam - just off J22 of the M62 so not too far from Hudders.

Details here and keep your eye on the regional section.

14th Dec for the next one.

Brilliant, cheers for the info Stu !

Andy, ta for the info re. the meetings, yup not too far away from me at all, I should make one in, as long as my work/xmas shopping/running our lass around to xmas p**s ups permits !

The oil grade is in fact 5W-30. As Stu says, Castrol Edge is the one I use too and readily available from Halfruads! (I believe it to be exactly the same or very similar to Castrol Longlife III which is what the dealers use).

Welcome to the forum but be prepared to spend more money as a direct result of all the info available on here ;) :P

Very correct Mr Fish - I checked mine and it is 5W-30.

Now on my third delivery delay !!!!

Not gonna be happening on Wednesday now

Shouldn't have tempted fate by starting this thread !!!

Dealer ( Bickerton - Sheffield ) phoned to say the car is still in Sheerness, and awaiting enough other cars to fill the transporter due for this part of "The North" before it can set off.

Grrr.

To be fair they have put my old car onto their insurance, as I had already arranged the transfer for tomorrow, and sent the certificate on.

They also offered to transport the car up individually if it was a HUGE problem ( which it isn't, just disappointing ).

I will still have to wait a few days once it lands at Sheffield as it needs it's PDI, retro fit cruise control, and Auto-Glym "lifeshine" treatment ( which I got as part of my haggling )

I hope it is worth the wait !

On the plus side, I have twelve grand sat in my savers account earning two weeks more interest than I expected

Oh god, please don't let this be a sign that I have made a huge mistake letting VRS Octy Mk1 go............!

Now had definite delivery date of NEXT wednesday !!!!!!

Car should land at Sheffield Monday, then after PDI, Cruise and Autoglym, will be ready Wednesday mid morning.

Nearly a month after being told it would be a week !

This had better be the most joyous car owning experience ever !
