Heater Ventilation fan power (or lack of)

Featured Replies

I have recently acquired a 2001 Fabia Comfort TDi but the windscreen takes ages to demist .....

in my opinion the fan seems to lack any real power as the airstream is hardly noticeable even on 4 ... I have read the post to remove leaves but am wondering if this is the problem as there are no strange noises and the airflow at the vents does not seem any stronger in recirculate mode

has anybody experienced anything similar?

anyone know how to solve this?

it is a pain but one I will live with if the only solution is to take it to the dealers to take the dash out!

thanks

When you put it into recirc does it stay in that mode?

yes it stays in recirc mode ... it sounds like it making alll the right noises ie gets louder in recirc etc but there doesn't seem to be a lot of airspeed in any mode

sorry for the delay in replying but as a newbie I shut the window down accidently and it took me a while to find it again !!!

a blocked pollen filter will cause poor air flow and it's a very common problem

thanks I will look into that ..... can you give me a clue where it is please !

would that also affect airflow in recirc mode?

To get to the pollen filter you'll need to lower the glovebox.

well I'm not a fabia owner but an ibiza owner and on the ibiza it is behind the glovebox/ pasenger footwell

if you can, just remove the filter and try it without it before buying a new one

just in case :o

yes recirc mode still goes through the filter and thats why smokers seem to block them up quicker

thanks everybody

that last comment may well have pin pointed the problem as it is obvious that one of the previous owners was a heavy smoker as there is heavy staining on the window surround of the drivers door.

I will take the pollen filter out to see if that does the trick, if it does are there any reasons why I couldn't run with no filter, would it adversely affect anything else?

thanks again as I had visons of taking the whole dash out to find a leak in the ducting

The filter should be replaced during routine servicing. I think you'd need one as the base of the filter forms part of the seal IIRC.

I don't think they are expensive.
