Some paint was spilt on my wifes car. It was a water based household paint by the look of it. I removed it at the weekend but it took a lot of scrubbing.

The paintwork where the paint was is now dulled compared to the rest of the bodywork. I assume this is a combination of the chemicals in the paint and my scrubbing to get it off.

What is the best way to restore the paint. It is a metallic black car. Can products like t-cut be used on that type of paintwork.

This is a tricky one... as it depends on the level of scratching which caused the dullness...

A simple test to see if this can be repaired is to run your fingernail over the surface of the dulled area... if you can feel any scratches with your nail then only professional Bodywork technicians can help you... if not; then you may be in luck!

Both are a slightly abrasive paste (that should be used in the order above) that will cut the finish on the paint and hopefully even out the finish and then its a matter of using a wax to protect the compounded area.

As has been said, if it is rough under nail then it's probably past the point of return and if you do go for it yourself then be careful. If you rub too hard you will go through the paint!!

I was very recently told you can use brasso to bring up dull paint work as its similar to T-cut but with a finer 'cutting grit'...I have not tried this mind you so I can't say whether or not brasso can be used on a cars bodywork..

..anyone care to try?
