Excessive milage...

Hmm, I have to disagree slightly. I think the main issue is the durability of bushes - but maybe these were designed to fail shortly out of warranty periods to sustain dealer income :rubchin:

Out of 14,000 members I've only heard of 1 driveshaft failing, and its hardly fair to use that as an example

But i mean every "rubber" bit in general... engine mounts included.. im on my 3rd engine staiblizer and the gearbox side mount is worn and needs replacing..

same thing goes for ARB bushes which could do with being replaced too

Aren't the VAG "flywheel problems" more to do with attempts to be "clever" with built-in vibration or mass dampers and the like than with the actual metal of the flywheel itself?

Whatever the problems are with them they do tend to fail ok mainly with "tuned" cars.

High mileage?

Octy 1.4 16v, slightly modded - 138,000 in 31 months

Octy SDI - 140,000 in 33 months

Both were fooked :D

HTH

Both were also mildly tweaked + used on the track on a regular basis though, which I would say is fair to say, causes a tad more wear & tear than your average motorway cruiser with similar mileage ;)

1 track = approx 14 road miles - the 1.4 did 12,000 track miles :D

 - I suppose at least it was run in then :P ;)

Well my Mk1 Octy vRS is 38 months old and currently has 101000k miles on the clock.

I had it re-mapped at 10K miles, and converted to LPG at 55K miles and have all is well so far.

101 MILLION miles? That IS an excessive mileage!!! ;) Been to Mars and back in it, or something!?! :D

*just kidding*
