Octavia 1.8T suspension query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm hoping that somenoe out there may ba able to recommend how best to solve a minor problem I'm having with my recently-imported car. Basically, the previous owner has uprated the alloys to 17 inch running on low-profile tyres. This, as expected makes the ride a bit harsh, especially on our dodgy Irish roads. This I can live with but the rear suspension seems to be riding way too low, even with only the driver in the car. Add a passenger or two and the suspension seems to bottom out, worse in the rear than the front. The shocks and springs are relatively healthy (according to Quickfit!) and the garage where I purchased it have fiddled with the bushings which helped a little.

Has anyone had any success or experience of using bump stops or is there anything else out there that may soften the ride a bit?

Thanks in advance, James Allen

What size are the tyres? The ride shouldn't be that bad on 17's with the correct fitment tyres.

Hi James,

Welcome to Briskoda from a fellow Dubliner! I've been running 16"s, 17"s and 18"s on my RS and I hardly notice the difference in ride quality on my car.... That was until I had Koni Shock installed...

you should be running either 225/45/17 or 215/45/17 (or if you don't like rubber then 205..)

Sounds like the springs or shocks are tired on the rear and need replacing. Drop into Phoenix Motors' Service department in Prussia St and they'll sort you out. (I should get commission for this...)

btw, expect a PM from Gaff... :D
