Yeah, I got mine from Halfords too.... I know it as the MFD2 - I have also heard the name Nexus mentioned in the past - as long as they know its a Skoda Octavia MY06, the connections are the same whether you have a Stream, Steam MP3 or MFD2.

The guy in Halford came out and had a look at the car before he ordered - and I seem to remeber the order number was an internal Halfords one. I can have a look when I get home if you like?

Thanks Ray, but I think the guy wants to know this afternoon. Good job you posted the picture of your installation as the fitter said it couldn

Slightly off topic, but anybody thinking of going this route and has not already bought the icelink, then consider a Phatbox.

They can be had with 20GB cartridges for around

Fluffmeister....

I had already looked at the Phatbox but couldn't find much information with usage on an Octavia. However, as you have stated I'm now interested.

If i got one (from where?) can i just take the lead out of the back of the existing CD Changer and put it in the back of the Phatbox ?

Having seen the one in Tony's car I can say for sure it is a nice bit of kit.

I don't know where Tony recomends but I have read of an eBay seller which is a US VW dealer being one of the better places.

I think the Phatbox uses the CD changer lead - in the boot.

Hi Ray

Yes, that's the sole task during installation :) I mounted mine to the back of the left rear seat, then simply plugged in the cd cable from the oem changer.

Then the options you have from the spoken menu's are (from memory of the mfd2, 1 being upper left button)

1 - Current track

2 - current genre

3 - current album

4 - current artist

5 - current album

6 phatbox options

All the menu's are spoken clearly enough, the options are also spoken and you just press the corresponding key to confirm the options during setup and with my single 20gb cartridge I have my entire music collection on there (well entire collection that's worth listening to)

To upload new tracks you plug it into the cradle thats attached to the PC and like Itunes sync up tracks or rip new music from cd. They are an official VW option but are expensive from VW, you can get them from sites in the US for around

Well that didn

:) you rang :) Yes Ray, as Stu says and in the post above that I made ref functions etc, it is simply a case of removing the cable from the back of the cd changer and fitting it to the back of the phatbox.
