Felicia fuel level sender earth connection.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where this chassis return connection is situated, the lead to the sender dissappears between the top of the tank and the bodywork.

It is an 1995 1.3 model. I'm getting an intermittent bad connection here, giveing an intermitent fuel gauge reading.

the fuel pump is earth is near the left hand rear light cluster, it is a black lead which has a ring terminal on the and held on to the chassis by a nut and bolt.

the fuel guage sender is earthed to a nut on the back of the steering column with the rest of the dash wiring loom

Does somebody have a picture of fuel guage sender where is earthed?

A fuel guage circuit is typically: power feed to the tank sender/rheostat then to the meter on the dash, then to earth through, as Tom says, the main dashboard earth. If the earth was the problem, the whole dash would have problems.

If the fault shows the tank empty then it's an open circuit and likely a terminal fault. If the guage shows full, then it's a short across the sender or a faulty sender (more likely).

This fault has been presenting itself so intermittently, clearing whenever I tried localizing.

I have since discovered that just tapping the dash fuel gauge produces a reading display.

Dodgy connection at the back of the gauge I think .

Tap, tap, tap; easier than stripping the dash  ?

You could try giving the guage a few quick bursts of the full 12v by shorting the sender unit with a bit of wire with the ign on or a long bit of wire from the battery to the guage side of the sender with the ign off.

A bit of electro-shock therapy might persuade it to behave.

the electro shock treatmen is not a good option.

the fuel gauge works on 6 volts, blue and orange wire both carry the 6 volts, put together they make a flat 1/2 tank reading on the gauge, put some juice on it and the gauge will be damage....

the tapping thing means is just dirt that has acumulated on the dash, everything else work fine
