Replacement head unit

Featured Replies

I'll be honest - I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to car stuff:)

I've replaced my original Skoda head unit with a Panasonic that plays MP3s. Sounds great. However there doesn't seem to be any sort of "permanent live" to allow the radio tuning settings to be retained.

The Panasonic head unit has a lead that converts the Panasonic connector to ISO. Of the four leads left after the removal of the original unit one plugged into the aerial, two plugged into the ISO connector at the other end of the Panasonic lead and the last one was from the now redundant multi-changer in the boot.

Am I missing something? I've seen stuff on the web about a wiring adaptor (I needed one for my old Ford) Although all the connectors fit and the stereo works

Do I actually need one to give me that "permanent live".

If so...any suggestions about where to get one from.

Cheers.

David.

Red wire is permanant live (i think) and yellow is ignition (i think). Swap your red and yellow around to get the radio to keep its settings.

HTH:thumbup:

:iagree:

hit the nail on the head there, swap over the red and yellow and all should be well :)

Or put both to red to allow you to listen to the radio when there isnt a key in the ignition. Ive done this with mine:cool:

OMFG 706 posts! Im getting to addicted to this site!

but the trouble is then it doesn't turn on and off with the ignition, this for me is much more important than listening to the stereo with no key :)

My head unit will turn off if put in standby after a preset time. Alternativly you can just turn off the head unit by pushing the volume **** in (if its an oem unit) or turning it off by a button. Mine also will turn off when the front of the radio is removed. I have done this on my previous car and the furby and have had no problems with the battery dying or anything;)

Personal preferance really:thumbup:

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure swapping the red and yellow cables would have worked but I decided to by a wiring adaptor instead. For a numpty like me it'll be easier. I've only had the car a week and I don't want to go maeesing about with it too much.

I got it from Blaupunkt car audio
