Fabia vRS turbo

Featured Replies

Hi people,

Just wondered if anyone could tell me the difference between a fabia vrs turbo and that on a golf gt tdi 150? Would one of these fit on my furby and what difference would it make?

Cheers

Nick

They've both got the same part number. There both VNT17 turbos. I've researched into this a lot aswell. Makes hardly any difference.

About 8 grand:)

Its in the ECU thats all. Identical otherwise

was under the impression the 150 had bigger turbo hence it has noticable lag compared to the 130...in fact im certain it his bigger but could be wrong

Apart from other item's such as a different manifold/pistons etc.

ok, where to start..... 150 turbo is garratt 130 fabia turbo is kkk.

So called the 150 turbo is the hybrid base turbo of choice.

Just a standard 150 turbo will give you close to 200 bhp, as per the golf or leon 150.

But you might need a fmic to get the full benifit?

But the 150 turbo is a good upgrade, but spend the money on a good clutch might be a better idea?

To sum up the all Golf based 130's and 150's use garratt turbo's, the fabia, ibiza and I assume polo use kkk turbos. The garratt turbo is better.

Not sure unless you go hybrid the cost would make the extra power etc woth while though.

The basic PD130 and PD150 engine is the same. The main difference is the PD150 has a bigger front mounted intercooler and ECU programming.

I'm sure it was posted on here once upon a time (by a certain person who knew what they were talking about!) that some of the first Fabia vRSes had Garratt turbos and others had KKKs. They all have KKKs now, and I think the reason was that the Garratts weren't significantly better in terms of performance or reliability, they just cost more.

Could be wrong there, though...

cheers people. I appreciate all the replies but am still no further forward in my choice. lol. would i get any significant performance increases if i fitted one or not?

As stated above and more than once...

The turbo is the same spec. The PD150 gets the power increase from the ECU and FMIC. Look at the torque figures on the PD130 and PD150 - they are practically identical.

Golf platform uses a gt1749va for the PD130. gt1729vb for the PD150. The b has a stronger shaft being the reason a PD150 has 1.5bar compare to the PD130 1.35bar. Tuners run the a upto around 1.55bar. b goes to around 1.7bar.

People also say the b has a bigger compressor to the a.

Also like aready mentioned above the fabia platform uses KKK turbo's apart from the PD160 Cupra which uses a b running 1.55bar. This is the reason why turbo dynamics wont take the turbo as exchange when purchasing a hybrid as they dont rate the KKK units.
