Ultimate Diesel?

Featured Replies

Does anyone use BP ultimate diesel? Does it really make that much difference? I was thinking of using it in my 2.5 TDI Superb.

HI,

I can say that I have used it in my 1.9 TDI 130 and yes it makes a great difference not so much in top speed but on acceleration adn response, I use a tank every now and again to clean the engine out but not sure if it does.

SNOB:thumbup:

I've heard that Shell sell similar diesel for normal prices, has anyone heard the same?

I filled up at Shell yesterday, so once the old stuff's out of the tank i'll let you know if it feels any different.

Does anyone know about Biodiesel?

I use Ultimate Diesel every 3 out of 5 fill ups, my main reason for using it is that it doesn't black smoke when you boot it but I have notices slightly better acceleration but that could be my mind playing tricks on me?!?!?

My Furbie vRS runs on BP diesel, now and again I give it a drink of the good stuff...:) Even the normal BP makes a differance so Imagin what the good stuff does..;) ...

Tried the BP Ultimate and Shell Diesel Extra (over 3 tank fulls each) and it made no discernable difference to performance, economy or smooth running in any of my diesels, although my wallet was quite a bit lighter

I now just use Tesco's finest and put in some Millers Diesel Power Plus every few fillups :D

Might have been discussed before but..............Can you stick millers in a furbie vRS Re-Mapped or not

Possibly......... Skoda say no, Millers say yes (except on Euro IV cars), IIRC.... I know Jason's been running it for ages with no ill effects :D

In Taunton, the Shell garage sell Shell Diesel Extra at the same price that everywhere else is selling standard diesel. I personally felt the car ran smoother, and seemed more responsive. I don't know if it was me taking advantage of the extra response, but I didn't seem to get as good economy.

All the Best

Never tried any of the 'premium' offerings and can't say I've ever noticed any difference between Tesco/Asda/Shell (Being the main 3 I use.) I have noticed my fuel economy being slightly off of late, which I put down to winter grade stuff now being at the pumps...

As for Biodiesel, I'm sure my owners manual says it's fine as long as it's to a certain standard. Don't fancy going for a look now as said manual's in the car and it's peeing with rain!

Have been running my 1.9tdi 130 on Ultimate diesel for the past year (done 50k), car runs so much better on it, is a lot more responsive using Ultimate and you dont get clouds of black smoke !, have had to use "normal" diesel on a few occasions and car always seems to feel sluggish with the engine sounding a bit like a tractor !!

If you can afford it I would say use Ultimate.

Never seem to get black smoke regardless, but 80k PD130 definitely less refined (relatively!) on Tesco's as opposed to BP's finest. Think the fact it runs a bit smoother makes it feel maginally faster. Is the extra cost worth it - not to me.

No black smoke? Are you sure?

Always black smoke with any diesel motor!!!

Shell diesel extra is excelent IMO. It's big brother, V-Power Diesel is coming in 2007...

Have to agree. I mainly run Ultimate by personal choice but I do find it no less smokey than ordinary diesel but that is more likely down to my remap and the extra power. I do feel the extra kick it brings when running it vs ordinary sludge with the remap.

hi guys,

ive just filled up fully with bp ultimate, (car seems smoother) as i usually run tesco crap. but lately the superb 130 has dropped 5-10mpg, it has a psi power box on it at the standard upgrade setting and i put in unicat 4. i also put in a bottle of diesel system cleaner so im going to watch the mpg and see how things turn out running ultimate,

as for shell i was researching they have released shell v power diesel as run in the audi le mans racing car, id like to try it but its only available in a few forecourts.

I have done a lot of work testing various diesel fuels for a large user. I'm not going to be drawn on the merits of any particular brand, but as a general rule, if your fuel conforms to the specification required by the vehicle manufacturer, you will be very unlikely to see any real differences. It's easy to fool yourself if the fuel is dearer (clean cars always run better).

It's important to remember that fuel outlets in the UK are now selling winter diesel. As this has a lower calorific value than the equivalent summer grade, an increase in fuel consumption for a given engine work output will result. It's far more important to use clean fuel with no water in it and to drain the fuel filter frequently to remove any aqueous residues. Unfortunately our friends at VAG don't make the filter drain tap very accessible - it's a pig on my 130PS Superb.

rotodiesel.

Always ran my Fabia vRS on BP Ultimate, the responsiveness in my car at least was excellent.
