which gear for rolling road?

Featured Replies

which gear would you use to check the bhp on the rolling road in a fabia vrs? would it be 4th or 5th? remember the vrs has 6 gears.

Good question!

I should have asked Mike at Jabba. I know the old 16v was in 4th, but it had only 5 gears. I think it may well still be in 4th, but not 100% sure. Maybe Ross could tell us when he sees this.

i hope it is. because mine only got 160 bhp in 5th today on the rollers. that would explain the low figure.

iirc we test them in 4th, will check tomorrow.

usual standard is up to 4th and full test in 4th

thats what i have always used

4th has always been used in cars i have had done

IIRC all rolling road tests are done in 4th as this gear has the closest match for the gearing and the road speed.

I've been to and ran my old 19 16v on at least half a dozen rolling roads and they always ran it in 4th.

The only time i ever saw any different was when an old 5 turbo would run high boost so they tried it in 5th.

Dear Mr Mann,

Thank you for your email.

I have spoken with our Technical Support Department and I can confirm that the

ratios for 4th and 5th gear are as follows:

4th - 1:0.911

5th - 1:0.902

Therefore, it appears that 4th gear is the closest to the ration 1:1.

I thank you for contacting us and I trust this information is of use to you.

Should you have any further questions you feel I may be able to assist with,

please do contact me on 0845 7745 745.

Yours sincerely
