octavia 110 bhp D engine stopping/MISFIRE

Featured Replies

hi there i did have a fab vrs but now have a oct estate diesel 110 bhp.ive got a starting problem and also a running problem.at starting , turn key glow light goes out it turns over then you have to rev it to start it.once it started for the first time its ok.any ideas?

second and most worryign.is that when you rev the car it sumtime stutters at about 1900 revs then picks up bu tthe pick up seems slow.and the iff yuo rev the engine when not in gear up to just above th e4k mark it starts to make a horrible noise when you come off the revs and sumtime misfires until it picks it self back up again.when it misfires it smokes like any thing white/ black. very thick then clears. on a few ocasions the engine atcualy stutters and cuts out, then is hard to restart.and then when you turn it off you get a loud popping from under bonet??is that normal??

sorry its such an essay.

hope you can help me

Glow plugs at a guess, My Dad had a similar problem on his Pug 306. He got a good set off e-bay for about £15...for the set!!

Other people may differ from my opinion

is that a pd engine or a normal diesel??

does it only do it at startup or all the time??

i think the 110bhp is a normal diesel Tom i.e. none PD

i would try another MAF on it

hi ive tried a new maf on it and had same results. the hard starting is only on initial start, yuo can then turn it stright off and it starts fine after.

but the misfire / smokeing only happens when you rev it up past the 4k level.

it sounds like its got to much back pressure and isnt getting rid enough.ive removed all the hoses and the turbo spins free and seems to be sucking fine.

bring back the fab vrs!!

thanks for the help. but keep them coming please

sorry yeah standard diesel.not pd engine. 1.9 tdi

Turbo may be spiining fine, but is the VNT mechanism on the turbo working correctly. If it is stuck this could in theory allow the turbo to stall.

Other candidates after the MAF are then N75 and any of the boost hoses or possibly the EGR machanism.

I think the first thing you should do it to get the fault codes read with VAG-COM or by a dealer and then go from there.

If the problem is only when cold, then try turning the key to get the glows going then off and repeat two or three times. If the engine is ok after that then change your glow plus, but if not then it isn't that.

On a derv car, the glow plugs are only used to get the car started, after that they are off, so if the problem isn't when cold, then the glows are not the whole problem.

EDIT:

Re-reading that i think your cold problem is probably the glows, although if it only happens when your car has been sast for a long period of time it could also be an air leak on the fuel lines.(Check the connections to the filter).

The misfire above 4k is probably egr or dirty injector related, the TDI110 does smoke a bit more than the PD130 when pushed.
