Tailgate trim removal

Featured Replies

Hi

Attempted to replace number plate bulb today, looked straightforward till bulb holder disappeared into interior of tailgate when pushing new bulb in. First time of changing so suspect something missing from new.

I have had a cautious go at removing trim but it is obvious there is a right and a wrong way to go about it, It looks as though it needs releasing from bottom edge before pulling downwards but can't be sure.

Any advise gratefully received

Andy

Well.....I would if I knew how. A search for 'changing number plate bulbs' will pull it up.

The tail gate trim can be partially removed at the top, get your fingers behind trim either side of rear wiper and pull firmly, I did this sitting inside. I found that I just had enough room to get at bulb holder and change bulb. Trying to change from outside just doesn't happen, all you do is push the holder inside every time..... on mine anyway. Found myself muttering 'Who the hell designed this' or words to that effect.

With just the top edge of the trim pulled away it snaps back on easily, other members have said how difficult it is to put entire trim on. I do have a new bulb down in the bottom of the door somewhere which fell out initially when I tried changing from outside, at a cost of

Top bannana:thumbup: :D

Thank you, I might do this one after crimbo

Having five hands would be a great help for refitting the trim pannel :finger:

Cheers for this. Just removed my tailgate trim cmpletely (to reattach a washer pipe) by pulling like a maniac -working from the top side like you suggested (ie. from the rear washer bulge) across and down. Putting it back on was more tricky. Eventually found that I had to locate the clips along the bottom first then it all pushed into place.

Does anyone else find that their tailgate trim rattles after its been taken off or is it just mine?

All clips are locked in place but still slight rattle over rough road.

Yes I've had mine numerous times and I'm a dab hand at getting them back on, but they do rattle a bit afterwards
