Convincing the stealer about the squeaky brakes

Featured Replies

I'm off the dealer next monday to have them look at the squeaky brakes (following the mooing brakes fix). They have already indicated to me that Skoda will not authorise any brakes fix quoting "chemicals on the road" or similar.

Any tips on how to force the stealer to carry out work under warranty? Especially bearing in mind this a '55 mk1 octavia vrs with 8k miles...

You can not force anything, but you can try your luck at another dealer. I'd just take it on a trackday and give the brakes something to do ;)

Unless there's a known or readily proven issue (like mooing, or something that fixes with new shims or Copaslip) unlikely a dealer will do anything, and not sure they really should, cos it's likely down to wear and tear or a specific selection of pattern parts.

erm.. it is a known issue.

Mooing brakes + fix = squaky brakes when going forward slowly

I thought that mooing occurred when reversing?

yeah but after the fix the brakes squeak when moving slowly forwards - there a few posts about it here.

Happens within a week of the fix, starts quiet and get progressively worse.

So the fix for the one problem causes the other then? If so, then Skoda must fix it by law AIUI.

Unless they claim it is causes by "dodgy chemicals" on the roads - as the dealer has already said..

Ask some questions then, starting with "Which chemicals are they referring to?", "May I see the analysis that shows chemical contamination to be an issue that only occurs on those cars that had mooing brakes which you fixed?", "Why is this only an issue on cars that had mooing brakes?"

You get the way I'm going?

Mine must have had the mooing fix then, I picked it up on Saturday with 13500 miles on and it squeeks when rolling forward slowly. Not had any mooing either...

So... back from stealer...

They called at lunch saying there was nothing wrong with the brakes - but would i like to pay to have them de-glazed as this *might* help (anyone know what de-glazing is?).

Obviously I told them to bugger off - that it was afault introduced by them. They went away and when i picked it up told me then had "cleaned the discs" - free of charge!.

The squeak is still there though not as bad.

Any similar stories? advice on what to get done ? Shall i just upgrade the discs for something nice?

Alternatively how much can I get for 8k miles '55 octy vrs?
