1st speed ticket & insurance up 50% ?

Featured Replies

received my first speed ticket in 30 yrs driving couple of months ago ( gatzo, 36 in 30 zone) informed insurer recently when involved in minor scrape ( someone drove into me) my insurer now upping my premium 50%!

although in a seperate phone call they said it was likely to be 8-10%

- does anyone else have experience of this kind of thing, and is there any way at all to appeal it?

my recent experience of insurers has utterly chnaged my opinion of them, alls hunky dory to you actually have to make a claim or do anything untoward and then its just

A 50% increase does seem a bit steep... unless you have very cheap car insurance already. I work for an insurance company and the average increase for an SP30 is about £40ish (dependant on the age of driver and number of years ncd).

A friend of mine got some points and was told by their insurer that they only had to be declared come renewal time? If the company is upping my premium by 50%, I'd be shopping around personally :D

seems very steep to me aswel!!.....friend told me that most insurers now dont b other upping you premium if you have less than four points on your licence.....ie if youve been caught speeding once they just dont bother with it as now most people have points!!....start shopping around!!!:)

Possibly the increase is more related to the minor scrape or possibly insurance co.s have just latched on to the fact that so many people have points now it is a great way to improve profits! In my boy racer days I got fitted up (I'm not bitter grrrr) and took a 7 day ban on the chin, made no difference at all to my insurance. Try another insurer?

You're with the wrong insewerer if that's correct. Most companies are now ignoring or applying something like a £40 loading for one or sometimes 2 speeding convictions.

this is true, most insurers won't up your premium if you get just 3 points for minor speeding....... as others said, change your ins.company...

A non-fault accident ddoes increase premium with some insurers. SWMBO used to brink my premium down a couple of hundred quid, one non-fault accident later she's £350 to add to my policy

I received a summons for my speeding ticket on friday :( 59 mph in a 50 after it changed from a 70! Was slowing down, but obviously not fast enough.

Am determined to fight it as I dont really want any points, and it's a nice experience to have for future reference. submitted a PACE witness statement so just need to make sure this isnt submitted in evidence as wasnt given under caution and was made under duress (ie threat of prosecution). Initial trial date at end of jan, but will be adjourned I think.

Most insurers will usually ignore the first SP30, but you will still need to tell them. I would also be looking elsewhere for insurance for a 50% loading.

piggeh, 59 in a 50 that used to be 70. Do you know why they reduced the limit?. 2 roads near where I live used to be 70 untill a few years ago, these roads now have a slow 40 limit and nice laybys for a scamera van to park up. One of these roads is a dual carriageway with no houses or nothing nearby, the other has a now disused school on it.

I mean the road is 70 then changes to 50. They stuck a camera van a hundred yards or two into the limit so I got caught even though I was slowing down from 70 at the time. It's downhill as well. :/ The site is a 'community concern site' as well, despite no one living nearby. >:(

i am 21. have been raped by the insurance co. for 4 years now. I HATE INSURANCE!!!!!!!
