Binding brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all, got a problem with the brakes on my 1.9TDI, rear cylinder was leaking badly, so lost all fluid overnight, replaced cylinder and bled all the brake system, ever since then all the brakes are binding really badly,I can park it on a hill without the handbrake on and it will just stay there !.If the nipples on the master cylinder are cracked open there is a small spurt of fluid which is obviously under pressure and the wheels are free until the pedal is pressed and released again.Have taken the master cylinder apart to see if there was any blockages, but all seems OK there. When brakes lock up the pedal goes very hard and high. Any ideas anyone, please

was the Brake master cylinder difficult to get back on the servo ?

as it sounds like possibly the pedal is sticking down or the brake switch is stuck out pressing the pedal down , this obviously pushes on the servo , hence my question above

No, it went back on quite easy, but have been wondering if I wound back the threaded end of the pushrod that comes out of the servo if it may help.

the threaded rod is factory set a certain length , if you have changed this setting i.e. lengthened it, this would obviously push on the master cylinder therefore press the brakes on

the master cylinder was probably easy to get back on due to the lack of fluid in it , or the master cylinder wasn't put back together correctly after strip down
