Piccies of my pd100 to vRS pd130 conversion

Featured Replies

I thought I had done a little log with some piccies in, but it seems it's gone or my keywords used in the search were not right. :D So, after finding some pics, I thought I would post them up. I will attempt to monologue them as I go along.

This is what she looked like 1 week before the surgery. On stand at a motorshow in Devon. Didn't look like this for long.

Engine out! PD100 engine gave little resistance. :)

New turbo was purchased. VT2 from Allards.

HYBRID.jpg

Clutch purchased from JBS and fitted before the engine went in (nice and easy  )

DSCN9050.jpg

Still not sure why it was painted red though?

DSCN9051.jpg

My first rough attempts at venting the front bumper. "rough" doesn't really begin to describe how I first attacked it!

DSCN9053.jpg

Pretty soon, the basic PD130 engine, gearbox and turbo was sat in the engine bay.

First serious issue. Bent outer hubs from scrapper! damn driveshafts rubbed on them. So, new outer and inner hubs from Skoda needed.

DSCN9057.jpg

First part of golfturbo's 312mm brake kit went on. The TT discs.

DSCN9082.jpg

Soon, much of it was ready to run. The Allard FMIC was fitted, along with my rather rashly thought out vRS green bumper bar.

DSCN9147.jpg

Some tippex grafitti!

DSCN9149.jpg

Stripped out internals - Once it got to the point I realised the dash had to come out and the whole car needed rewiring with the vRS wiring looms.

DSCN9155.jpg

Birds nest. :D

DSCN9158.jpg

Gutted! Quite literally.

DSCN9163.jpg

Trying to figure out wtf I needed. Notice I still had the pd100 N75 vacuum box. One thing discovered was the need for the vRS vacuum box system. And the boost sensor too.

DSCN9222.jpg

Bit more gutting out of the inside. :D Found out that the 5 speed gearbox cables didn't make the 6 speed box do the right thing, so I had to get the vRS "stick" with cables as well. :)

DSCN9225.jpg

Wheels back on over the 312s - now setup and ready to go.

Car back up on the ramp for some more fettling no doubt. Bumper bar went black p.d.q.

FMIC.jpg

Once it was all running, it eventually went back to Jabbasport for a custom map, and it came back with 221bhp and 360 lb/ft. This was verified during 2006 on 3 different rolling roads.

And how it looks today, just without that vRS badge. ;)

Everytime I see these photo's I have to admire your complete dedication to your hobby.

Awesome

NICE PICS!!!! Bo) The Turbo, is that the new WP-SH v2 range? It looks similar to what I have.

Great record of your endeavours. I admire your dedication and skill. Dare I ask if it would have been cheaper to buy a 130 VRs to start with and mod that?

:sofahide:

Jase, you are a true inspiration to Furby modders!

rec-tep!!! (Ali G)

That is impressive work and I admire your dedication. I guess you could have just bought a VRS and saved some cash, however that wouldn't have been half as fun! Those are very impressive outputs too.

Thanks for (re-)posting your pics - seems like a lot of pictures disappear from threads after a while as well, probably a few months or something, hard to say :)

Excellent work

If you don't mind me asking ,how much has it cost you?

Cost me a lot. I was faced with a classic situation when it came to doing this

1) car worth about £5k (y plate pd100 with 63k) do I chop that in against a vRS and end up getting a loan for about £6k+ and then having a new standard vRS.... [boring....]

2) car worth about £5k, (maybe less) do I chop it in and make my car into something of my own fashion - sure it will be worth nothing in reality to anyone else, but to me it will be worth every penny. I still got that loan for £6k+ and it was spent on all the bits.

Engine conversion - £1580

Turbo - £800

FMIC - £800

wiring looms - £500

various new bits needed - around £500

labour to fit - £1000

some paint work - £300

brakes - £250

and I've been spending more since too, but it's always to improve the car.

I went for option 2, and due to the car now being worth more to me than anyone is ever going to pay me for it, I'm likely to never sell it and keep it going. I have no issues with that. It's beyond an "asset" to me - It's a hobby and the car is my hobby/interest. It's also my daily driver. and it's proving to be excellent all round.

I have to say that's amazing. Where did you do it?

I'm soooooooooo jealous... :) :) :) :)

Did it in a local garage. My mate's techie skills, and my "learn it as you go along". Still took well over 2 months unfortunately, with getting new bits, and other bits.

All that hard work! But have you got the number plate sorted yet!:):P

astonishing, what a feat, i would have deffo being the boring man and just bought a VRS, put FMIC and big turbo on :D

Looks very good but I have a question. Were is you air intake as the FMIC hose runs thought the hole in the bar?

Looks like a right dogs dinner ;)

And how it looks today, just without that vRS badge.

Which I am proud to say I now own
