Clunking noise from front right suspension over bumps/ ridges only - why? Bushes?

Featured Replies

I get a clunking noise when driving over damaged road and bumps on river side only, why is this? Bushes, something loose, suspension top mount?

Is this common on Octys?

Thanks guys.

roll bar link or roll bar bushes are the usual suspects

Im no mechanic pal but i think the technical term is "its ****ed":D

river side only

Water ingress? ;)

Was hoping you got more response to your problem than two of the replies because I have the same problem. I can't find any play in my front bushes only the bolts going through the drop link bush looks slightly offset. Links suggest this could be a problem.

come on fellas I hope you're all not trying to solve the mystery of ..............

Removing rear 'OCTAVIA' badge, possible or are there holes?

I would suggest ARB bushes as well - I know mine need replacing and I get clonks on both sides. Some people have also had issues with raditator mounts.

I fixed my clonking 2001 TDi with a whole new ARB. Well, Albar Autos fixed it, I just paid the man. Apparently the inlays in the bushes actually wear the bar out, meaning I couldn't get away with just two bushes :(

bu99er... maybe I should sort mine out before I need a whole new bar.... btw - how much did u pay for a new bar and bushes? Mine is a 2001 (Y) TDi with 104.5k on it now.

51octytdi:

Was your Octy clunking on both sides? Also how much was Anti Roll Bar fitted?

All:

Do you think I should try just changing bushes on suspect side first and can I just change the right hand side only? Does Eurocarparts or similar sell them?

Is this what they look like on the Octavia (these are fabia ones I know):

eBay.co.uk: SKODA FABIA 2000 ON 2 NEW FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR LINKS (item 280065437203 end time 08-Jan-07 22:10:18 GMT)

Thanks all!

£57 for the bar

+ £8 for the bushes

+ 1 hour labour

+ VAT = £145

All I remember was it clonked a lot when I went over speed bumps (and there are a lot of them around here). Didn't seem to be coming from a specific side. I had 116k miles on it at the time.

PS: I should add I saw the bar when it had been removed, and it was the actual bar that was replaced, not the drop links. Looked like this (scroll down a bit): http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/skoda%20octavia/suspension.html

Thanks 51octytdi.

Anyone know where I can buy the bushes / ARB online?

I had the anti roll bar go my old vrs.

Apparently on the factory fit bar there were 2 plastic bushes moulded on the steel bar, these ware and eventually break away. (Hence knocking noise).

Skoda has now re-manufactured this part and replaced the plastic parts with steel inserts instead.

Off my local dealer the anti roll bar and the 2 rubber bushes were about 100 squids. (Not including labour)

Had what sounds like the same problem on mine, replaced the ARB bushes and it dissapeared.

Bushes cost me about
