favorit rear brakes

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I'm a new kid on the block who has a bit of a problem with a low mileage, but old Favorit.:)

It's my daughters car, I do most things on it but have come across a tricky one. Rear left wheel locks when breaking, not very hard pressure on brake peddle hence my concern. I've just replace all the rear brakes and wheel cylinders, bled the system etc. and check adjustment - all seems ok. Could it be the proportioning/compensator valves? If so, what can I do about it?

Need to get it sorted as she's taknihg it back to Uni on wednesday!

Many thanks for any help!

:) Is it a Mk1 Favorit[carb] or Mk2[injected]?

The Mk2's had VW rear brakes rather than the Skoda brakes of the Mk1.

I think it's possible to fit the Mk1 type shoes incorrectly, so that you have 2 leading shoes on 1 wheel and 2 trailing shoes on the other. Worth a look.

Did the car have this fault before you replaced the rear brakes?

There is a pressure reducing valve for each rear brake at the master cylinder, so it's possible the left one is faulty.

Thanks for the advice daverapid, it's a Mk1, will have to check the trailing leading shoe issue. My gut feel is the compensator!

Many thanks again for the help!
