How often do you drive your vRS' hard?

I was just wondering how often vrs owners drive thier cars really hard using all the rev range?

It is just i am a bit of an aggresive driver and afer the remap i started to drive even harder (it is like a sickness:) ). I am starting to worry about my car and if it is going to survive my driving for long:)

Why buy a "performance car" to drive like an OAP all of the time? :confused:

Of course I don't mean driving like a hooligan and being a hazard to other road users, but I often take a detour down the twisties to put it through its paces.

I drive mine quite hard most the time. Agree with Harry VRs, - why have a performance car and drive like a girl :)

Good, then i should stop thinking about that and get back to driving it hard:)

Just don't rag it constantly though.

The vrs engine is bullet proof. I have a Golf PD130 which is the same engine. It has been remapped from new and got a hybrid turbo at 80k. It now has 150k and produces 230bhp and has been driven hard since new with no failures.

Just keep an eye on the oil level.

Yep that is true, all tuned engines should be maintained better.

They do eat oil!!

Yup, I'm one of the 'rag it' crowd just can't help myself!. The only time my car gets a rest is when the family are with me :) .

Will also confirm that you must regularly check your oil level, my consumption of the stuff is frightening :eek:

so you obviously wanted some torque and drivability, hence the vRS :)

It is really really REALLY difficult to drive it slowly even when the family is in it:) But i torture myself and drive slow and smooth when my little is in the car. That is why we have ordered a second car "Roomster" to use as a family car:)

Either way, it's not the same engine as a 1.9 130, for whoever said it was; I think you'd be surprised at the differences in the parts BoM...

Yes drive it hard, else buy a Matiz.

I certainly used to be a pedal to the metal, red-line guy, but don't be aggresive or dangerous with other people; be wise, there may be a family walking just around that country road bend, or mud on the road, an old person leaving a junction and misreading your excessive speed or acceleration...

Don't forget that you need to check and change oil more often.

Also, your engine and gearbox bearings and clutch will wear roughly dependent on average torque loading, and cars are paired down on cost/spec terms to suit expected use for a standard engine.

Given tolerance variations and tolerance stacking, it is possible you could have a car that lasts longer than someone else's standard car, but for any significantly tuned vehicle, the reliability probabilities are going to be against you I'm afraid, unless you have uprated bearings, clutches etc. It get worse the more often you max out.

Best of luck while the urge lasts, it goes away in the end!

I know you are joking, but c'mon let's get reasonable - we want to drive fast for fun where it's possible, so we should promote the idea of being careful and well behaved, or else it will only speed up the day when our fascist politicians start making backhanders from us having to buy satellite tracking, automated speed control, camera recording in vehicles etc., under the excuse that the safety benefits are for our own good. All coming to a previously liberal country near you...

I haven't (touch wood) even so much as scratched a car for 25 years, but I can see it's pretty bad having to hose off body parts, and for the sake of a second or less, having to live with the horror of what happened and wish you could turn back the clock. Besides, you could dent your car.

Not that often, and only ever when it's fully warmed up...

Why a vRS, then?

I like the performance "headroom", I like the more planted feel day-to-day, I like the seats and I like how it looks :)

It is 2.0TFSI remaped to 248hp so i am guessing that the load to the engine is much greater then in stock form, but i just cannot resist flooring it almost everytime i am driving alone in the car:)

I am afraid the urge will never go away, i have been driving for more then 10 years and always been crazy with the right pedal:)

It will, trust me.

Do you do lots of miles ? If you ever have to, it will force you to get a bit calmer for the sake of your wallet, saving the planet a bit more, avoiding arguments with spouses etc!

well not sure about mile but i do around 35-45k km a year. I am just crazy about driving, so when i go somewhere i usually pick the longest route rather than the shortest:)

Ah! You don't have the misery of the UK's overcrowded roads then.

We are massively overpopulated in most parts of the UK (look at the zombies filling our supermarkets) and also, fuel is expensive.

Yep roads are quite free here, so i can go for a drive anytime and really enjoy driving and not burn fuel in some trafic jam:) But petrol is not cheap here as well 90p\Liter.

Actually i have been living in Leeds some year ago and i loved your roads, especially the ones in Weals are perfect for some spirited driving:)
