What fuel for Octy vRS

Featured Replies

I have briefly read some other threads regarding fuel for the 2.0FSI.

Ive been putting in standard unleaded 95 ron for the last 2000 miles. I'm now going to try some Super unleaded 98 ron.

Will it make much of a difference other than in my wallet?

Does anyone actually have some bhp figures for the different fuels? Will it affect MPG?

Also, my MPG doesn't seem great, on both my MkI Octy vRS's I could easily get 38mpg on my 50 mile commute even upto 40mpg. On the mkII octy, Im lucky if I get 32 and the best so far is 33.1.

I know if I was after good MPG I shouldn't have got a Petrol vRS, but when in motorway traffic I cant use the power, so I look for other ways of justifying my love of vRS's!!! (I'm so glad none of my friends see me on here!!)

There have been good reports about using the Shell Extra stuff.

I would stick with 95 ron this time of the year.

Have never used anything but higher octane fuel so I have no idea how the different the car would be without it. Most on here swear by Shell V-Power but you'll need to run a couple of tanks through to see the benefits.

Here's what the manufacturers of the stuff say.............

Shell V-Power

BP Ultimate

I was told by a dealer that 95ron would be fine but then I heard someone tell me the power output would be reduced due to a knock sensor?????

Thus I've been putting Tesco 99ron in since. At least I get my points too......

I usually use Shell V Power which is 99 ron. This does make a difference - the car feels like it has more poke and revs more freely.

I have only once used a normal octane fuel which promted SHMBO to complain the next day about noticiable difference in proformance. :P I too noticed a difference ! I use V Power all the time now. even when it reached

BP Ulitimate never seems to be rated in tests looking at the impact of high octane fuels, very little bhp gain at all in fact. Shell on the other hand has always come out tops and in certain performance cars has shown quite a significant power increase over useing 95 Ron or BP Ultimate

I would stick with 95 ron this time of the year.

Ur, why?
