Drivers door switch

Featured Replies

Hi,

Going to be cheeky and jump in with a question for my first post!

I've got a 2002 (52) Fabia 1.9SDi, and the drivers door switch seems to have stopped working (interior light not coming on, not releaseing boot without opening another door and most annoyingly locking my keys in when I throw them on the seat and walk away without opening something else! )

Now the questions (2)

1. Where is the door switch (on my old car it was like a sticky out thing and quite obvious)

2. Is that likely to be the problem or could it be a fuse or something more simple?

Thanks Guru's over to you!!

Cheers

SD

Door switch? Do you mean the central locking switch on the driver's door panel?

No - On 'Normal' cars when you open the door it operates a pressure switch which turns the interior light on (like a fridge) its usually situated near to the hinges on the door and usually a little black sticky out thing. I'm sure this has broke as when I open the door the light doesn't come on etc etc.

Oh, yes, I know what you mean. Doh!

There is no switch, and Mr Haynes (as much as it was a waste of money) says that it is not a replaceable part as it is built into the lock.

However, Im going to ask you a question here and I dont mean to sound condesending but - Have you checked that the switch on the cab light is in the right position for it to turn on when the doors are opened?

Otherwise it could just be as simple as a fuse. Fuse layouts

Thanks for the reply mate, Yes the switch is on the right place its deffo something failed i'm not getting my 'your lights are still on you numpty' audiable warning either!

the central locking relocks the car after about 30 seconds if no doors are opened, so if you have the window open and unlock the car , then throw the keys onto the seat it will auto relock

from the faults you mention i would suspect the micro switch on the door latch assembly will have gone faulty , it also works the lights on buzzer

Strangely i have this exact same problem on my Fabia Sdi :S

I have however noticed that the interior light illuminates (as if the switch has been activated) when the door is almost shut

funny that, our dealer (who doesnt know much) said it was the whole light switch and unit that had buggered but only the drivers door doesnt activate the interior lights. where would the fuse be? or is it irrelevant?

Common fault on the Octy mk1, the interior lights dont work on most of our Mk1 octys!!

Requires new switch which is inside the lock mechanism just to make things awkward.

Hi, SWMBO's Fabia has just developed this fault, so at the risk of wakening a thread that has already sorted a problem, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the cost of supply & fit a new lock?

I have had the door card off before to fix a loose connection on the speaker, but it looks like I have to drill out a load of pop rivits to get the inner cover off to get to the lock, so I might just leave it to a local chap, as every time I take it off I bust some more of the trim!!

Cheers!

Yup, rivets have to be drilled out and what not. There is a guide here as to getting the door carriers off:

Thanks Guys. I have had a go with WD 40/ contact cleaner and no go! I'm not too worried about it, as there is the internal release leaver, or lock the car and open it again routine, but SWMBO drives it more than me and she says "its doing my head in", so I guess I will be having a go! However I thought I would ask as she will expect me to fix it, unless there is a likelyhood of me making it worse; in whic case it will be down to the garage again!!
