2.0 petrol cold starting problem

Featured Replies

Hello again all and thanks for the v useful tips I've had from readers in the past.

my 2.0 elegance has developed a problem starting cold, this seemed to start to occur not long after its most recent full service. the engine will only start if i get my foot on the throttle, but once up to normal temp, restarting is not a problem. In every other respect the engine runs 100% fine. I had the spark plugs checked and the obvious things checked out but with no improvement. People have suggested that certain air filters are impregnated with oil and this can affect an air temp probe of some sort (next to the filter?) and that a simple cleaning of this can help? Does anyone know how pratical this is and exactly where it is located?

Any other ideas or tips would be gratefully appreciated,

Cheers

Corky.

I only know where it is on the TDi I am afriad... no idea about the petrol engines.... hopefully someone else can help here - or a look at Mr Haynes may help?

Hi, it's mounted on the right hand side of the engine,.. mounted in a plactic housing with lots of water pipe coming from it.

follow the water hose from the top of the rad back,.. you will find it,...
