Speed camera laws - help lol

Featured Replies

Just a query but drivin at the speed limit through swindon and i saw a stationary speed camera just down from the college - fine no problem (Queens Drive)

Then (In a Bus stop 150 yrds down the road) a little van with a man in the back :D I know why they do this - people slow down for that one then speed down the rest...

My question is - Are police allowed to PARK IN A BUS STOP?? some SAFETY CAMERA UNIT!! THINK THEY NEED TO LOOK AT RE-EVALUATING -

I mean public transport in a town so they park in a bus stop after convincing people to catch a bus instead of drive?

I think your question is actually "can I use them parking in a bus stop to get off being done for speeding?" , and the answer is no.

I'd have to agree......unfortunately a common haunt down there on both sides of the road!...I take it you wern't doing 40 by this time?!;)

Wouldn't it be (mildly) funny if the buses were those ones with the cameras on them, and the police got done for it...

Just to point out ( I wasnt speeding) I was thinking - oh what happened if a bus fully off people (National Express) lost control and Hit that speed camera unit... lives lost cos he was in a bus lane - they cant just pull up and stop?!?!

for sure if the bus cannot get properly into the stop, and the passengers have to walk accross the road (even if it is a bus stop) to get to the pavement, then the camera van is an abstruction, and someone should call the police to come and move them on (assuming it's staffed by civil servants) as the health and safety of the passengers is being put at risk....... a friend of mine had a camera van moved when it was parked on a pavement (near a pedestrian crossing) as she couldn't get her double baby buggy past it without going into the road, and the crossing is there because it's such a dangerous road.... safety my a@@ !

note: it was nice to see some proper traffic police around on Cumbria's roads this afternoon

edit: although police are allowed to park wherever they like if it's on 'police business'........

cheers thanks for the help.

I was wondering as well, whether there is any recourse for complaining about where they stick these cameras? Obviously I got caught ;) and going through the process.. but annoyed where they put the camera anyways.

I believe that if you talk to your local Council Traffic Management department they'll be able to either shed some light on why the camera was put there (stats, etc) or be able to point you in the direction of someone who will know. I believe it's also Council policy (at least in Hants) to respond to all letters they receive so you should get a reply (eventually!) :D

You are quite entitled to complain about the position if it's on safety grounds , but that's purely to stop them using the spot in future.

It has absolutley no effect on the legality of tickets that they issued while parked half on a pavement , on double yellows etc

Not worried about legality of ticket, etc (although I am probably going Non-guilty route and trying pepipoo route - worth a try to avoid my first set of points). Camera was put there as a 'community concern site', but should really be moved a couple of hundred yards back imo as it means excessive braking at the moment and is just after a slip road (downhill) which people bomb off doing '70' on (unlikely to be concerned about the speed limit where I'm going). Accident waiting to happen if people brake to 50 before entering the zone.

if u see them there if you're walking then try to get in saying that as they were stopped there you thought they were a bus.....
