Ex Demonstartor

I have a friend interested in a Octy MkII vRS however he likes a demonstrator, with 3.5K on the clock. Surely it's likely to have been thrashed and worth avoiding?

Depends on the cost if its cheap........:)

Having said that when I test drove the Octy vRS I wanted to know how it would proform. Took it for the day up and down the motorway ! So yes they will get a bit of stick.

Get your friend to ask the dealer for a full warranty package so they can take it back if something went wrong.

Personally I'd never buy an Ex-Demo.

It's like marrying an ex-prostitute.

I've had a bad experince with an Ex demo myself and as you seem lumbered with the thing once you've bought it I'd steer clear again.

Cheers for your comments.

I think mine was an ex demo originally, im the 2nd owner and no major issues here.

EDIT: mk1 Octavia

A lot of ex demo cars are also used by the Sales manager, so not its not to be assumed its been thrashed.

Any ex demo with lot of miles on, will I reckon have been used by the staff at the garage.

Mine is an ex demo, but I was lucky it had only 67 miles on the clock, spent most of its time in the showroom.

You don't tend to get much of a reduction in price (if any) when they have so few miles on so you're better off buying new I reckon.

I considered an ex-demo when I bought mine. Sales manager couldn't sell it for less than £17,600 though, yet he sold me a near identical brand new one for £17k.

Ive had three and no problems so far.

My current Octy sport would have cost over 20K new with the extras it has, I paid 16K. It had around 4000 miles on the clock at the time and was used by the sales manager, dont mean it wasnt thrashed though:D

Anyway im happy with it and would defo buy another ex demo.

Nothing wrong with ex-dem, got my 06 VRS petrol in black with jumbo, 18's, maxi-dot, zennons, 3k on the clock for

I agree with sko-with-go. Mine was ex demo, 2.5k on the clock 06' plate, jumbo(yeah right!) 18's and I paid under £14k.

Coming from a company car culture, I always felt cars run better if they had been thrashed from day 1!

I just think the saving is massive, well over £3k. And that far outweighs any downside to beign an ex-demo.

I also got a gret trade-in on my X-type - £7.5k when i only paid £6k for it last year.

And for me the best benefit....Not having to wait, coz I'm an impatient b***ard!

Buying an Ex-Demo is a good idea as the majority of time they will have lowish miles and will have all the toys fitted in (I saw an Ex Demo vRS PDI the other day with 18" Alloys, Jumbo Box etc going for the price of a brand new vRS)

Its a case of test driving it and making sure that everything is ok before signing on the dotted line.

I used to always get ex-demos, like 15 to 20 years ago, when there seemed to be a much bigger price reduction over brand new than there is now. Buit I think it also depends what it is a demo of. The sportier end would tend to get tried out harder, to make sure they were indeed sporty! I don't think the cooking models got any excessive thrashing.

I never had a problem with an ex demo that appeared to be caused by abuse while demonstrating!

I nearly purchased an ex-demo Octavia diesel vRS just before Christmas until I found the same spec brand new for £1K less at another dealership. Shop around before buying a demo they may be cheaper than list but you don't have to pay list on a new one.

Yes, and if you are using finance to purchase the car, you might find that the 3 year interest-free deal currently offered makes it better to buy new than a demo. Though apparently that deal isn't offered on the vRS, or diesel, Octys at present.
