annoying radio interference

Featured Replies

Just bought a 2nd hand 1.9Tdi Octavia (2001). When I'm listening to the radio I hear a piercing whistle coming from the driver's side speaker which gets worse when I accelerate. The noise stops instantly when the radio is switched off.

Anyone experienced this? Got any ideas?

Does it happen when the radio is on and the engine is off?

Does sound like interference, however have you tried a tape etc to see if it happens too?

I would check the wiring behind the radio, I assume it is the after market one. IIRC there is a speed wire that allows teh GALA function to work.

happens when the engine and radio are on also when there is a CD in. Seems like the revving of the engine is causing some sort of feedback in the speaker. Maybe I need a new speaker?

Are rear speakers if fitted OK on same side?

Try swapping front speakers over -

although if it stops with engine off

High picthed wine is normally Alternator interferance especially as it only happen with engine running, although would have thought it woulkd affect all channnels i.e left and right - as your car is a deisel theres is no ignition circuit to worry about.

Thanks for that reply, I'll try switching the speakers around tonight.:)

Yeah hence i said is the gala wire connected in the right place, eg the previous owner didn't fit an aftermarket radio then put something back wrong when he sold it.

sorry cheezemonkhai- I don't know what a gala wire is! I tried changing over the speakers but the ones in the back are smaller. I tested with the rear one though and the noise stopped, but I didn't test it on a long drive. So it's prob the speaker that needs changing but could you please tell me what a gala wire is so i can try checking?

:P

Gala is the radio getting louder with speed.

Since the swapping the speakers out stops the noise i would suggest getting a set of something like pioneer 1703 component speakers and fitting them to the front of your car to replace the low frequency cone and the tweeters.
