When did the Favorit come out?

Featured Replies

Hi all

As topic title really , I was talking to a workmate today and he got on about his old Favorit (current Felicia estate owner , also had numerous Estelles) , it was G reg , and I was wondering was this one of the first? I cannot remember seeing one earlier than that , most that are still around now tend to be M or even early N reg.

Dealers got theirs on F plates but joe Blogs could bye on 89 G-plates.

and in any colour as long as it was white IIRC

Yep, only available on white on launch on a G plate. Got a big photo in my local ex-skoda dealer of their first transporter full of white favorits! :D

Ha ha , I thought this thread was posted in a moment of shock, as if the poster had not realised that such a magnificent car such as the Favorit had been released unto the general public, and wondered when this marvel of modern technology had been thrust upon us!!

I'd rather have white than baby poo beige that most of them ended up as around around here ! What drove people to go out and buy such an awful colour ??

Yep it was White! 'G *** LEX' the reg was , I remember seeing it about town back in the day.

Yup g reg indeed.

Skoda officially stop supplying parts for the Favorit next year.

Engine/gearbox wise the Felicia shares a lot of stuff.Later Fav's share brakes with Felicia's too,no prolems on running gear then.Bodywork can be sourced from Butts in Doncaster or Czech if you fancy a drive !.......or many sheds including mine ! Got a load of older Skud stuff !

My current Gavorit is G reg (LS model) (Made in 1989) but in Blue. Ive also owned an F reg in Mushroom colour.

Bearing in mind the colour of the interior I would of thought the external colour was the least of their worries :D

So do tell...what WAS the colour of the interior? or even better..piccies?? :D

Most early favorits had a sack cloth brown interior, hideous to lok at but surprisingly practical and hardwaring, and not uncomfortable even on a long run. However It looked crap.

I quite like some of the hideous colours early favorits came in, good for stealth :D

by the way 932, im gald im not the only person to realise the beetle was a nicked skoda design :D making the porsches skoda descendants :D

He he, I love re-educating Volkswagon owners about that one when they take the mickey out of my Skoda. As for the interior pics I will get some pics up at the weekend. Its a Brown cheque design. Not great to look at, but bearing in mind the Mk1's had softer suspension they are pretty comfortable. Alos apart from the door trim self destructing the brown dash and switches seemed better bolted together compared to the Mk2's. Also go far much better due to the reduced weight

I rally a mk1 favorit due to the better handling and acceleration :D Its my favourite out fo the favorit felicia range, not as powerful as my old skoda trophy felicia, but more fun to drive, a bit more tail happy and bit more chuckable :D.

Yep,baby poo brown on the inside too ! BUUUUT like you say very, very comfy even on long trips.

I work for Porsche now and when i went for training on the brand they left out the little matter of Mr P stealing a certain idea that became the Beetle ! No worries though i regulary walk to and from our brew room with my Skoda Motorsport mug commenting on how nice these fast Skoda's are !

Hahah so Porsche are embarrased to say that their cars are derived from the humble Beetle , and Volkswagen are embarrased to say that they stole the design of the Beetle from a previous Skoda design study? Quality. Imagine saying to a 911 owner that the history of their car owed quite a bit to Skoda.....Imagine the look on their face...hehe!

Tatra aswell though, but that doesnt really mean much to people these days.

They actually do not believe that Mr p was in CS proberly sweeping up in the either the Skoda or Tatra factories and basically spying..i's not a concept they can imagine ! Oh how intelligent we Skoda drivers are !!!!

Not forgetting Skoda did and still do (enginneering part) make some very big locomotives.

PS, mine was a; L reg Fav in carabean green with black interior a very nice car in fact

Thinking about it the Tan colour of the Octavia interiors is probably worse than the brown interior of the Favorit. Scary really.

I have an N reg stretched version in the same colour, good bus, does what it sates on the tin !

The later cars when VW took over gained a nicer looking interior, however from my own experience with the cars build quality itself didnt necesarily improve, Ive tended to notice VW era cars werent quite so thoroughly painted in areas where it doesnt show like behind bumpers and behind wings etc, encourageing more rot in those areas than in the pre VW cars.

Im really sad Im having to get a new family car as with a 4th child ont he way we need a seven seater :(. My favorit estate has given 2.5 years trouble free service. I brought it for £500 from a dealer after a horrendous experience with a brand new ford mondeo. I figured the car would be saving me money if it lasted 6 months. It cost me about 49p for a new bulb on its last MOT :).

The Brand new Mondeo I had before that was a top of the range model worth about £23,000 In the 9 months 9k I owned it it went through 3 clutches 2 flywheels 2 sets of front tyres, was ont he back of a recovery truck at least 3 times, it had spent over 2 months in the dealership - including 6 weeks when ford were sat around scratching their heads wandering why the thing was starting in which time they replaced most of the engine bay wiring and injection kit ecu etc etc with no luck.

Tell me again the one about old skoda reliability :D

I have just brought a mitsubish space wagon to repalce the car,and Im dreading it being unreliable so far the central locking is showing a few glitches and one of the windscreen wipers has flown off :( and the fan belt needs adjusting - or I hope tis just the fan belt not the altenator seizeing up or something like that.

Im going to miss my nice reliable cheap to run Skoda favorit estate . At least Ive still got the rally hatchback, which I use for work and back :D.

I noticed my VW built Fav has rusted on the tailgate around the rear screen just like the VW built Felicia's ! quaility...NOT ! My old G-reg Fav rusted on the arches but that was 16 years old when i scrapped it and i still have the mint bonnet and tailgate in my shed !

We have a Nissan for my better half and i am happy with jap reliabilty and nice revvy engines !

Ugluk, I wouldnt worry, at least its going to a good home ;)

Favorit was launched in Czech in late 1988 - was a large queue for cars on launch.

First UK examples arrived just before G Reg - on an F Plate. These ended up at dealers only. First Sales were on a G Plate.

At 1st 2 trims L and LX. Later LX was down specd and LS added to replace it. Motoring Journos did not like the LX(LS) trim so Skoda UK had the seats re covered in the tweed material - showed they were far better than the VW Skoda UK Mob are now.

Dad had a G Reg in Moonstone (Light Beige) G407 WTN which he kept for nearly 10 years. I had a K Plate 136LS in Regal Red (K793 OBB) for 2 1/2 years from being a Demo.

The VW modifications were not all that good. The first cars had major modifications for the UK market (Goodyear tyres and alloys, sunroof with radio ariel, uk digital clock). These all went when VW started importing the cars. Personally I prefer the earlier cars - but hey I'm biassed. Dad was Czech after all. Also when you consider what little resources the Czechs had when the Favorit first came out, it was a miracle any car was produced.

Finally as for the VW Beatle - Uncle Adolf with his Porsche friend actually stole the original engine from Skoda. Tell that to the new breed of Skoda owners who have come from the VW stable.
