Rear Door Drainage Holes - Check them Now!

Featured Replies

I have had both my rear doors repaired for leaking water, like so many on here.

Recently I have had one of them repaired again because of "sealant failure" and was a goodwill gesture from Skoda UK as it was being done at a different dealer.

Having got all the usual tell tale signs - damp trim, water on rubber seal, steamy windows I looked a bit closer and noticed that the drain holes on both doors were stuffed with either small plastic claw like clips or small metallic blobs of metal, a bit smaller than an air gun pellet.

Could this have meant the doors were holding too much water and have caused the failure of the sealant? I managed to withdraw some of them using some long (thin) nose pilars before the car went in. After the repair water now drains well even though there are two more metallic blobs to remove.

Also, I enquired as to sealant used to repair the doors. I tried to get them to say it was sealing cord but the response was we use two different ones. Half expect it to need doing again in the future.

Hope this helps someone.

the plastic bits are from the door trim clips which will have got broken when the door trim was removed ,the blobs of metal will be the ends of rivets that were drilled out to remove the inner panel , these should really have been removed from the door before the inner panel was refitted
