Running 225/45 R17s on a Fabia?

Featured Replies

OK

So I'm kind of turning toward a set of second hand Audi S3 wheels at the moment, but I believe (yet to be confirmed) they're wrapped by 225/45 R17 tyres. My little tyre convertor site tells me there is a serious difference in rolling radius, to the margin of around 9% when comparing steels to these wheels.

So, are there gonna be any other issues besides gearing I should be wary of? I know seriously bad economy will be one... :D AND, an interesting point. IF they're the wrong size could I tell the 225/45s to some of you Octy vRS owners to enable me to buy 205/40s as I should? The ad said 2 were Pirelli P6000s and 2 were Bridgestone Potenzas.

(edit: wrong ad - it doesn't mention brand of tyre)

Many thanks.

I think the wheels you had on your last car look very nice. Having no luck getting a replacement?

Think S3s have different hubs (ie. same as Octy), which might make matters more complicated. Other than that, go as big as you like, just drive to take account of your speedo being out... :D

My last wheels can still be a possibility. I just suddenly fancied some S3 ones. :D

I'm gonna ask the seller what the stud pattern is, and if they're 112, and not 100 I'm not gonna bother. Two new wheels like I had before will be

S3 are the same as Octy. 5 x 100 which is also the same as the Fabia.

And you dont want 225/45 17's on the Fabia, too wide and rolling radius wrong.

Have a look at these Jason, the ones we talked about...

Sorry about the crap pic, I didnt take it

You could sell the two good tyres on to make some money back and get the correct 205/40 17's, they would look good on a silver car I reckon.

hehe - :D I remember our little chat, Ross. No worries... I don't think the S3 wheels will be a go-er anyway.
