TDi Starting Problems

Featured Replies

I've got a bit of a problem with starting my 90 TDi at the moment.

The glow plug light comes on and then goes off after a few seconds but when I try and start it sometimes it catches fine, but most times it keeps turning over without starting straight away .

When this happens the glow plug light starts flickering and I can hear a relay clicking behind the dash. Sometimes it starts after another few seconds sometimes not...

I put 4 new glow plugs in last week which has not made much difference. So I was thinking:

Duff glow plug relay - Which one is it?

Dying battery

Temperature sensor playing up maybe...

Any other suggestions.......

If you can here clicking & the light is flashing i'd sugest the Glow Plug Relay.

Acording to my 'Auto Data CD' it is under the dash (drivers foot well) Possition number 4 on the piccy - can't be sure of the acuracy though!

Have you had the fault codes read - just incase it's anything else?

I have read that the Relay 109 give a lot of problems on TDI and they need to replace it.

Also, I hear that is a expensive part too:eek:

I will recomend you to check this: TDIClub.com - VW TDI Forum is a VW diesel forum and have a lot of info that can help you since your engine is the same as in VW's.

Good luck,

Isaac
