Clutches and remapping, what's the score?

Featured Replies

Hellooo, looking for some opinions on the clutch life of a remapped Fabia Vrs.

I have just got my 04 plate Vrs and it has been remapped by (Skoda think) Star Performance. Now, it goes bloody quick and I still can't get the grin off my face when it takes off but I have heard murmurings that remapping can toast your clutch in a quicker period of time to that of a standard car? It has 21k and the salesman at Skoda said it had been remapped just after it was bought from them new.

What be the truth oh knowledgeable ones?

And how much would a clutch sting me if it were to go?

Cheers for any help.

Cheers DMAC, I never realised it would be so expensive! £600-£800 or £1200! Holy cow! I am getting married in 6 months so a clutch is most definitely not in the budget. Sods law, guess what is going to break in the next few weeks!

As my car has only had one owner before me I might try and track him down and see if it has maybe been done already? Fingers crossed!!

Thanks again.

a way to preserve your clutch is not to boot it from too low down the rev range.....
