32" LCD fit in Octy VRS Hatch boot?

Featured Replies

Going to pick up new boxed 32" LCD TV this week. Will it fit in the boot or back seat? Anyone collected one in their Octy VRS hatchback? Just depends how much polystyrene packing around it I suppose.

They can deliver it next Wed but I can't wait that long:hooray:

thanks

I got my mates 32" in my vRS hatch with the seats down.

fitted 40" LCD in the fabia, so i would say yes, but i have known to be wrong. :D

My first thought was "Seems an odd place for an in-car telly..."

I've got a 42" in the back of my mondeo before and the boot is similar in size to the Octys, only problem is your not meant to lay them flat, they are supposed to remain in an upright position at all times!

Will they ever know?

I'm sure they say to keep it upright for a reason, not just to make things more awkward for people, so wether 'they' know or not, doesn't really matter.

Mine was laid down on it's back and doesn't seem to have been bothered by it though!

I laid our 32" down but had to put the back seats down to get the boot shut.

but what about the bars that go across behind the back seat

Son works for Comet, they have got a 32" with stand in a micra no damage

Plasma or LCD?

if someone told you that for an lcd then they are talking nonsense

I've had a large 32" CRT in the boot of my Octy before, was a bit of a struggle but when in without fighting.

Got a medium size fridge freezer in my 4x4 hatch which has a smaller boot than a vrs. Had to put the seats down of course!

The boxs for these things are huge, so I'll stick my neck out and say "no".

As has been mentioned above, plasma screens were recommended to be transported in the upright position only, due to the gases etc settling in the screen. LCD however, I am not sure about. i would think it would be like your LCD watch, just don't put pressure on the screen, not that any idiot would. i apologise to any idiots in advance who may have done this, and caused any damage.

It was a Sony LCD, and it wasn't someone who told me, it was the box that told me!

It said something like, 'Keep Upright at all times' on it.

Mine went in the Mondeo in it's box, obviously with the rear seats folded down.

The larger screens can flex if it's lying flat on it's back. Think of a big sheet of plastic held by the edge then wobbled in a Rolf Harris style.

In rare cases that can be enough to cause damage if you go over bumps too fast

Got a 32" stood upright on the backseat of a Volvo 440 even had its seatbelt on (in box as well) ;). believe the vrs to be a wider car so will go with yes:D

Thanks for all those replies. I'll let you know how I get on - going tomorrow to pick it up.

Bought a 42" plasma on Boxing day much to the wifes disgust.

Got it in my Octy Vrs hatch by removing the top half of the box then sliding/lowering it in then placed the poly protection inserts back around the screen to prevent it moving.

It was perfect with about 1" clearence to the roof lining making the inserts a snug fit.

I also took home a massive home cinema system in an even bigger box aswell.

The screen sat very centraly with the seats down and the Box to one side.

Just dont try and get air off any speed bumps on the way home.

I had no choice though if I had gone home and told her it was being delivered next day she would have phoned up and told them not to bother.

I agree that it is bad idea to lay a plasma flat due and the box and currys explicitly warning gainst it althogh i'm not oo sure of the science behind it.

cheers

Neal.

Correct on lying it down, I work for Toshiba and they are supposed to be upright at all times, reason being as mentioned, they can flex and distort, more importantly the TV's are so slim these days the fraimes are desighned to hold everything in an upright position so lying it down with the vibrations of driving can add pressure to the screen creating un focused parts on the picture.

How can the focus be affected?

Stretching basicaly, IE gum for instance when pulled is thiner, its exactly the same for plastic of all kinds, the screen may bulge in place thus stretching it in places and thus making the picture "Appear unfocused" in those effected places...

Just bought one and took it home in the Fabia.

Couldnt get a signal though ;)

Plasma screens are glass, not plastic.
