Can't Open Boot! Octavia GLXi (1998)

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Had my Octavia a couple of weeks now without any real problems until today. The boot is jammed and won't open. I thought it might have been frost related but it's been stood in the sun all morning so can't be that.

It has central locking (not remote) which normally opens it, and I've also tried with the key in the boot directly to see if that would help.

On my old Fabia I had an internal release for the boot but I can't see one inside this - should there be??

Any ideas?

Thanks

It's now working -weird! I'll get some WD40 on it tonight!

I think i remember somebody saying that this might be an iffy solder joint in the boot lock mechanism, a search will probably turn up the thread.

You can open it from the inside. You need to crawl into the boot from the inside. There is a drop down flap just under the lock. Open that and there is an orange lever inside, push that sideways and the boot should open. (speaking from practical experince).

Not saying it's your problem but:

I've noticed on both mine and my brother's Octy that if you try the handle whilst it's locked, it jams for some reason.

Locking and unlocking via central locking a few times seems to sort it.

I get this - the boot lock solenoid stops working so hence doesn't unlock the boot. When I took my soleniod to bits - it seemed to work on a screw - which explained why I couldn't open it with the key (can't push against a screw). I got a replacement (from a scrap yard from newer car than mine) the design inside has change - so even if it fails to work, you can still unlock the boot with the key

I've got a 1999 GLX
