Ok, got VAG COM going today. I thought it was meant to tell you what the codes meant? I only get, for example:

"17608 - Cant decode. CODE FILE NOT LOADED!

P1200 - 35-00 - Cant decode. CODE FILE NOT LOADED!"

Thats my first question - why do I get that?

Second question:

These are all my fault codes

17608

17544

18010

17705

01039

01314

01304

Whats going on here then? are they big problems? how do I fix them? would they be covered by an upstanding warranty (ie, are they wear and tear?)

Did you select the chassis type ? I think that it uses the code file to allow for VAGCOM to give reasonably descriptive errors etc, although I am unable to check as my lead is not with me at the moment :)

I would ensure you have installed the software properly and as WW says make sure you have the correct chassis loaded. Yours will be 1U.

In the meantime you can look up codes here - Category:Fault Codes - Ross-Tech Wiki

eg -

Firstly, thank you for the link to the wikipedia thing.

I made sure that I had the correct chassis selected, and I also follwed the step by step instructions on installation. Still no description of the fault code

"17608 - Cant decode. CODE FILE NOT LOADED!

P1200 - 35-00 - Cant decode. CODE FILE NOT LOADED!"

Which version of VAG-COM are you using?

  • Author

I am using version 607.3 with a USB interface

Nope, still no joy.

Thats the same one that I downloaded previouosly today. I just cant work out why it's not working correctly.

On the main page, in the top right corner it says "9157 codes loaded" i guess that just doesnt include any of the codes mine brings up!

Some of your codes are very common and I am sure they would be in there. I suspect a problem with the install or perhaps you could be doing something wrong.

Do you have a file called codes.dat in the Ross-Tech folder?

  • Author

Codes.dat is there

Another thing it doesnt do is the display freeze frame info - where it grades how important the fault code is. I check the box, but nothing shows up.

Never mind - I get to find out what the codes are at least, and then I can just look them up on here

I don't think your car will support Freeze Frame.

What kind of PC?

- Make, Model, CPU, RAM?

- What version of Windows?

Where did you buy your VAG-COM stuff?
