Climatronic problems.

Featured Replies

I have only had my Superb for just over 1 week, and I have to say I am very happy with it except for one thing.

I will try to explain thia as best as I can so here goes.

If I turn on the ignition with the radio off and the climatronic on i,e the display shows the car with the driver and the temp for inside, the outside temp does not display nor do the fans start for on average 10 mins. Also if you turn the lights on the display for the climatronic does not light up. Now if I then turn the radio on outside temp displays and the sytem lights up as do the fans start to work. I had it in to the dealer today, and they seem unable to find a fault with the system. Has anyone had a similar problem, is it meant to work like this, any advice would be appretiated.

Obviously a fault - should not be like this

Got a phone kit fitted?

No he hasnt got a phone kit fitted

All I can add to this really is that I've noticed the climate takes time to "power up" but if I press Auto then all kicks in as it should, but I dont ever turn it off, or the radio as it happens!

No as cfr22 says I do not have a phone kit fitted, and the dealer seems unable to find the fault. Tried looking around for a second hand unit, but no luck so far, as I wanted to try it myself, then get the dealer to sort it out. Problem is, the car is used for my business, and can not afford to leave it with the dealer for several days, but need the fault sorted, so anything I can do to sort it or if anyone has had a similar problem, then feel free to give any advice you can.

There are a few VW climatronics on Ebay.

It is a new suberb and if so, have you compared it to another one the dealer has in the showroom?

If so I'd be calling the dealer and asking them to give you another car of the same type while they fix it or exchanging the car for one that does not exhibit the problem.

Problem with having another car is, that mine is taxi licesned, so not that easy to do. Will have a look and see if the units look the same, I asume they work in the same way.

If it's the same unit as the Octavia Mk1 I think I have one spare. However it sounds like a wiring problem relating to the ignition live signal. Is the stereo the standard one or has it ever had an aftermarket stereo or phone kit.?

No standard radio, may try another unit in ti to eliminate the unit, then see if it is an electrical fault as you say. It is not the same as the one in the octy.

Do you have a photo as I'm sure it will be the same, just like the passat is the same as the Golf.

If it's like this then it's the same:

Just try taking the radio out rather than another. Also you mention the car is a taxi, is there any radio kit fitted?

EddyH yes it is the same as in the picture, and no there is no radio gear or phone kits in the car. \although it is a taxi as it is plated as one, it does not do normal taxi work. It takes business clients to and from airports in the UK, and as such, a phone kit would not be of much use, as there is no privacy when clients are in the car, so I use bluetooth headsets and phone holders, I will get a pic for you tomorrow, so you can see the setup. If you climatronic unit is the same, it may well be worth a try to at least eliminate that if nothing else. Where are you in the UK, I am in cumbria.

How old is the car?

I had all sorts of problem with mine when the wiring to the convenience control got wet.
