Courtesy light not working from driver's door

Featured Replies

Afternoon All

Hope there is someone out there who can give some help on this annoying little problem which is becoming more frequent.

Opening the driver's door on my 02 plate Octavia doesn't always operate the courtesy light (& the little car display on the dash doesn't come on). All the other doors are fine & the light twinkles away quite merrily

Anyone got any ideas where the driver's door switch is for this pesky light?

I believe it's built into the lock/latch mechanism in the door...

i have the same problem and have done for nearly 3 years now as i am too lazy/tight to buy a new lock :)

Thanks for the good advice. I'll add this problem to the growing list of faults I'm finding with my car.

I discovered this morning that when I adjust the right rear view mirror, the left one moves as well, but only the left one moves when I adjust that one. From previous posts I think this may be due to a known problem of moisture getting into some circuit board in the drivers door.

I'm going to be having a long & interesting chat with my dealer quite soon as I only collected the car just over a month ago. Good job it came with a warranty - phew!

Its supposed to do that  No, really it is !

Makes adjustment of mirrors from one driver to the next easier.

i hate to say it but the pillow biting ex-jap crap owner is right on this one :)

adjust the drivers side then the passenger side, then any future adjustments to the drivers side will be mirror'd(no pun intended) on the passnger side exactly :)

Yep and again the mirrors are meant to do that.

If the thing is only occasional then try spaying some switch cleaner into the lock area and hope this clears it up.

i tired that, had no effect. had the door apart and sprayed the crap out of it electrical contact cleaner with no affect what so ever.

Well I'll go to the foot of my stairs - clever folk these car designers. Thanks guys, I'll cross out that one from my list of annoying niggles.

the problems developing with internal lights suggests problems with the CCU which is located in the drivers window motor and has a plug attached to it that fills with water and rots all the pins away!

i don't think so in this case, its a knackered door catch i think. mine has been ordered finally :o and should be in monday so i can fit it.
