guy's my ferby is making a strange suspension sort of knocking when going down a rough road, no noise on a nice flat road.

any ideas what the prob could be

Sounds like a broken anti roll bar could well be a prime suspect.

Ok thanks havent got under the car as yet, is there a under car cover over the anti roll bar?

by the way it's a 1.4 mpi comfort

if its a 1.4 then its most certainly an ARB, not need t get under the car. Turn it on lock and have a look at the bar. You will see the clollar has cracked or missing, the bar will have shifted across and now be banging on the aluminium console.

Mine's making a dull knocking on pretty rough roads too. Might check out my front ARB too - It was replaced new not that long ago so will be a bit gutted if it's gone already. :(

sorry to be a bit thick but just had a look at the car both sides with the wheels on lock.

I can see the ARB and a little strut from its end connected to the main suspension.

Is this the little strut the problem? worm balls joint on its ends?

or am I missing the issue here any pointers would be good also any pics?

yeah the drop links can be a potenial problem too. but as M-03 has said, if it's really banging then it's more likely that the anti-roll bar is bent or broken

do you know if its an easy job DIY or is it one for the local mac who has ramp etc.

can be done DIY.... as it happens, i'm just about to change mine for an eibach one, so i will be doing a how to guide on this very shortly in the near future...... watch this space

you dont need a ramp, but you do need to support the car on axle stands quite high, you also need a jack to support the weight of the subframe.... and you also need to unbolt the steering rack

Thanks Tom any idea the cost of a new ARB how much was your eibach?

the eibach one is about £180, which is a 22mm one....

the standard ones are about £70, plus you should change the bushes at the same time

UPDATE, my machanic has been all over the car the problem:

worn ARB Bushes and knackered ARB struts ball joints worn.
