Alternative Instrument fitment for Octy

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried changing the instrument cluster in a Mk1 vRS Octy for another from the VAG range? Which ones are the same physical fitment - is the Golf Mk4 cluster the same physical shape/fitment for example, or A3/S3?

I appreciate there are some coding issues for immobiliser, radio etc which I don't have a problem with, but I don't know if the clusters are functionally interchangeable in respect of wiring etc..

Why? Because I don't really like the silver rings look on the standard vRS cluster :)

Have a search, R32 clusters have been fitted.

Check my write up in the guide section, that should get you on your way.

 damn, I keep forgetting about that :o

can you clarify what cluster is required - does it have to be VDO? You mention "standard" as opposed to "sport", so would a Mk4 gti dash be no good?

Are there issues with the lefthand LCD display format? The computer functions are displayed on the vRS, is this the same with Golf, or is this stuff displayed in the centre display panel using the same wiring connections at the rear?

Cheers

If your existing clocks are VDO then yes the new ones need to be VDO. Most GTI's are fine, the sport clocks are standard on the Bora sport. Clocks with the centre display are fine, I have the full height display that also works with my sat nav to display directions. Wiring connections are the same.
