Vag-com Virgin!

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have purchased an OBD II VAG-COM Interface Cable, and downloaded VAG-COM software from the Ross-Tech website, and am having problems!

When running the test to set up the connection between the computer (Dell Inspiron 510m laptop) and the vehicle (Skoda Fabia 1.4 Elegance 2000X), the following message is displayed:

COM Port Status: OK

Interface Status: 3 - Not Found or Ready!

I have tried VAG-COM software versions 311-2, 409.0 and 512-5, all of which are coming up with the same message!

Any advice please? Please note, this is new teritory for me - I haven't got a clue!!

Do you have the ignition switched on?

I'm assuming it's a copy cable judging by the software versions you mention.

Yes, the ignition is switched on.

It may well be a copy cable - bought it on ebay!

Can you try it on another car?

Have you followed the install instructions on the Ross Tech site?

Is it a serial or USB cable?

Only use 311-2 or 409.0 as 512-5 is not compatible with dumb interfaces

I got an ebay cable too, it didn't work with the full version of VCDS. So I downloaded VCDS lite and it works fine

Yes just get the shareware version from ross tech and avoid all copied or 'hacked' versions. Dunno why people bother with these because they're just the free version anyway.

I'll not rant on about how you should have bought a genuine cable. (Trust me, it's actually worth every penny).

I'm getting a genuine one soon....My mechanic mate is on the case, can't wait.....
