These are LED's. I had one change when car was in for a service anyway. I had had a look at it before and it didn't look too simple.

I believe the plastic surronding the mirror is quite brittle and easily broken.

If they are LED's then surely they shouldn't pop so quickly, if it has it might be caused by water ingress which should be a warranty claim.

The puddle lights are not LEDs, but bulbs. I had the wing mirror apart the other day to replace a cracked indicator cover and found that out.

You can do it yourself in 5 minutes, but you need to lever the glass off with a screwdriver from the back centre otherwise you will crack the glass and thats £36 to replace (or £150 on the L&K )

the painted cover just unclips and the indicator unit is held on by two torx screws.

There you go, you learn something new every day, coloured bulbs anyone? :D

just what I was thinking ;)

Question is: what colour??? :rubchin:

I can see Skoda dealers being inundated with requests for new clear plastic covers for A5 Octavia mirrors :D

Oi ! Just hang on a minute. I'm lost and confused.

What are puddle lights? Are they lights that shine on the ground when the doors are opened? where do they shine from? Bottom of wing mirror ? I don't think I have them but I do have flasher repeaters in my wing mirrors and they are tiny little very bright shiny things like grains of rice that seem to need a lens to show up properly. Is this a LED ?

Or just a minute bulb ? How do I tell?

I'd like to know to save me from making a prat of myself when telling the service guys of a problem. They do enough smirking as it is.:)

The puddle lights shine from the bottom of the door when opened as you thought, these use a normal bulb. The indicators are arond the side of the clear plastic and are yellow leds and are not replacable.

The puddle lights only come on the Elegance and L&K models

And the puddle lights dim up and down smoothly which is harder to do with an LED.

Either way, they are a very good feature.

You see I like the feature, but I'd rather they used an LED and not bothered with the dimming.

Anyone know what sort of bulb it is and if the LED variety would work? Since it is being dimmed I guess not

Not sure what type the bulb is but prob the push in capsule type or the double ended type. You can get most types in led form on sites like this but don't count on getting the same brightness. Having said that they might be a little more effective and actually work as puddle lights rather than the current ones that should be called 'panel lights'

Are you sure yours are working correctly? My puddle lights (Elegance) are fine.

I'm more concerned about having to change bulbs regularly.

A normal bulb is most likely to pop when being switched on and off, which these will get a lot.

The best way to do it is by leds.

You can by superflux leds that will outlight bulbs and last forever.

Ofc you want to keep the white color of the led, but you can use others too.

You can get those led sets from : JMstyle - SEE YOUR CAR IN A NEW STYLE

Dont know if there is such distributer in england.

My issue over LED's is that if the circuit is dimming the standard bulb then will this damage the LEDs at all as they don't work in the same way.

that what mine was.

the part number depends on the chassis number as there is more than one version. the dealers should be able to look it up that way
