Fab vRS ? Kettle whistling sound 2 mins after starting

Featured Replies

The noise is from the turbo spooling/winding up.

The VTG turbine blades move inside the turbo and the turbo speeds up

I think it has something to do with the emissions as the engine will pollute more at tick over, so perhaps it's VAG's answer to it.

If it's a cold day you can see the exhaust emissions coming out the back at a faster rate, but no more fuel is injected.

I have a strange whistling noise coming from my car too, it only started today but, unlike you guys cars, you can only hear mine at tick over, it disappears as soon as you rev it and comes back as soon as tick over is achieved. The other difference with mine is that it continues almost like a boiled kettle running down after you switch it off.

At first I thought the alternator belt was making the noise but, that got discarded when it kept going for about 10 seconds after the belt had stopped turning. It was more like a pressure release type of noise only with nothing obviously leaking, well, I couldn't tell where it was coming from exactly. It is in the general area of the o/side front.

Any ideas?

I get this on my 1.2 at low speed I get a whirring noise. Had my friend who is a mechanic go through the engine with a fine tooth and he saw nothing out of the ordinary. Must be normal for Fabias/ skoda?

Mine does it. It's the veins in the turbo opening when it warms up.

mine too. its louder if stopping next to a wall or when parking a garage. done it since i got it with no issues

yep mine too cant be egr got mine disconnected with catch can mod must be turbo does sound a bit like a camping kettle

i have the same problem, damaged turbo :(

cory, is the whistle your only symptom of a dead turbo?

Mine does it too, its just the turbo starting to spool due to increased revs from the "choke" being out / operational

Is it diesel? If so it is the egr valve opening that makes the exhaust note change..

Yep, mine does it.

Always have. Not worried though.

If it started whining, then I'd sh it myself.
