vRS Grating Rear Brakes

Featured Replies

 My 06 vRs has been into the dealers today for the egr gasket, now apparently they took the car for a test drive and said the rear brakes were grating/down to the brakes stripping themselves (Which they shouldn't) So they have booked it back in under warranty to modify/strip and clean the rear brakes.

A few people have raised this issue claiming rusting etc, so perhaps it's a known fault, and not a problem you should live with...Just thought i'd share it, it may be of some use! neebsta

Its a feature rather than a fault. Also effects Polo and Ibiza equally as bad. There is so little weight over the rear axle that the rear brakes do very little. This leads to them corroding up usually long before they are worn out.

Stripped...not corroded...I have the report here from the mechanic which says...'Requires brake modification...' bit of corrosion wouldn't really cause a 'brake modification'. Especially as it's warranty work.........

Hi Everyone / Neebsta,

I have had an absolute nightmare with my brakes on my new Fabia vRS and it is only 8 weeks old and has 5.5K on it! I have argued with 'Underwoods' (Colchester) and skoda UK over 6 times now and have had my car in there workshop 4 separate times and they say there is nothing wrong with the brakes! They make a metal grinding sound when braking lightly driving up to lights. So any more info as to what they said was the exact diagnosis would be great?

There is also a rattle coming through the gear stick when idling at lights! Which they have said Skoda say it has happened on a 'few' cars and they are looking into it. Aparently they will contact me to fix it once 'Skoda Technical Dept' have decided how to cure it! Can anyone confirm if it is true?

Anyone in the know, please please help!

I love the car, but why cant they just fix the little problems.

My rear brakes seem to grind most of the time on light application on my 07 vrs. Seems to be common from reading on here, so haven't taken it in to be looked at. Annoying tho.

Both these problems are common, although the gear lever rattle happens randomly - some do, some don't.

The grinding rear brakes are more apparent in the winter months when salt & crud build up on the discs & pads.

I usually apply the handbrake lightly when coasting & this usually gets rid of most of it. Some use a pressure washer to blast it off & give a good clean.

Skoda garages are pretty poor imho, the one I use is an absolute joke. However at the 3rd attempt of having the EGR gasket fitted to fix the infamous 'Stutter'. The mechanics took it for a test drive, which is where they discovered the brake issue, which I thought was down to corrosion?? I was however informed that it wasn't corrosion causing my squeal (May have a different squeal to everyone else) But my brakes were actually stripping?? (Fnarr fnarr) So it is going in in 3 weeks time to have the brakes done and some paint on the bumper which is 'Missing'. As it's hard to get the garage to do any work, I am amazed that they have 'voluntarily' agreed to fix a fault, that wasn't even aware was a fault...........

They are still nowhere near as good as the Seat garage I used to use when I had a Leon........Yet they are all from the same VAG stable............Rubbish

Mine are noisy, on a 05. I wouldn't call it grinding though.
