my day skoda hunting

Went looking for a vRS today!

Test drove a 2006 model with 4k on the clock. Intending to buy brand new though.

Wow..the grin is still large upon my face now:D and i wasnt even driving (too young) My dad drove and was largely impressed with it. It felt so well put together and could hardly hear the engine, everything was soo smooth aswell.

I've had a good read on the forum and other various reviews about the vRS and was sold by them, but the test drive today bought it all into reality!

The dealership have 3 skodas coming in around march time, so may put a deposit down tomorrow or monday.

They've got a 0% offer on finance wth a 30% deposit over 36months which i will probably be making use of!

Was wondering if anyone has any experiences with this offer or ones like it, and is there anything to look out for?

Also, was wondering what you paid brand new for yours? only option i chose was metallic paint.

I paid £11300 for a black furby VRS with metallic paint from new car discount .com - very pleased especially as they gave me £4500 towards my 3 year old peugeot 307 which is a good price for that pile of old nackers

Any deal you can get on the Furby vRS is good, specially if you really like the car & really want it. :)

The 0% is a good deal on any car but they ususlly come with a sting in the tail in this case its the high deposit, so if, you can afford the 30% deposit, then go for it.

Please remember that the 0% offer is a manufacturer offer and not the dealer. What I am trying to say is that you should still get a discount and then take advantage of the finance offer.

To get a ball park discount go to drive the deal site (use google) and then get a quote from this site.

Do you have a part ex, if not then I would want the dealer to match the figure quoted on the internet, if they can't try another dealer or alternatively order through a broker on the internet.

Hope this helps

yeah, the guy said because of the finance offer that was the best price he could do.

i mentioned about the new model fabia coming out soon, he said they're not replacing the vrs version yet so it shouldnt devalue as much. still good bargaining material though. I also mentioned the stutter problem, he said it wasnt a problem on the fabias?

I wanted to put down a bigger deposit, also, but he said that wouldnt affect the price he could give me on the car.

not got anything to part ex unfortunatly

probably go back tomorrow of monday and see if i can get a better price!

cheers!!

Bear in mind he wants to sell you the car, he will tell you (moreorless) anything to seal a deal! Some dealers are sneaky like this, not all though.

The stutter IS a problem on some cars. If he thinks it's not then he will be happy to write you a 100% 'money back guarantee' signed in blood. Ask him to do so.

Of course it will devalue more when the new model comes out, but we are talking 12k car which has a great reputation so it's not going to be a huge impact.

If the price he's offered is the 'best he can do' then phone around other dealers and offer them your business - say you are ready to do the deal and have deposit in hand but want a better price than your local dealer is offering.

Then go back to local dealer with lowest price and beat him down on that. If he is adamant that he cant move on price tell him he ought to speak with his regional manager or Skoda UK as he's thus going to loose your business to another local dealer.

See how you get on with the strategy above and post back.

I am having similar 'fun' with Subaru and Mazda at the moment!

You are in such a good position without a part ex, I would shop around and as I have said get a price from the many internet sites ie www.drivethedeal.com just had a look for you and the price is

i got an new 56 black magic with extra headrest and mats for £10999 motorpoint car supermarket.

Mats are standard but a good price none the less.

£12500, Red, Xenons, Cruise Control, CD changer plus a few other bits (can't remember it all, but I got headlamp protectors, too)

Hi,

I would get him to throw in cruise control, IPOD conection and handsfree conection as well.

Hey nice to see some more local youngsters getting into the vRS spirit :)

The dealers have ALOT of flexability on price tbh, you just need to work them. The dealer in Newport wouldn't go lower than £11,800 for me, So i went away and found it cheaper online. Anyhoo he rings me a few days later asking if im still interested, and i said i found it online for £11,000 on the dot. His reply 'how does £10,800 sound?' (£1k less than the week before oO).

'Sounds goods but i've gone elsewhere sorry'.

You will love the car tbh! And compared to most of your mates who probably drive 1.1 puntos or fiesta's you're in a differnt league :)

Dont forget in a few years down the line there is great potential to tune the pd130 engine for not alot of money.

Beware in your budget running costs, depending on how you drive it, tyres every 6,000miles isn't unrealistic lol. £160+ for the fronts 3 times a year adds up ;)

Wow.. only 6k miles... you must drive yours pretty hard for that...

Done 8.5k in mine since last March and there's still plenty left on my tyres :)

To the OP: Not tempted to add xenons or cruise control or even heated seats?

All worth while extras IMO :D

The one thing I wish I'd opted for is a sunroof though.. ah well maybe next time

6k isn't too bad considering :p

I let my best friend take me for a spin a few times, and she managed to make it rev bounce whilst in 2nd gear with asr off, and we weren't really moving :o

The black 11's have only just gone 3months on lol.

Yes i do drive it hard, but whats the point in having a 'vRS' if your not going to drive it like one. Might as well have a pd100 then.

As Clarkson puts it, 'POWER!!!'

well i just trawled through 30 odd pages of the stutter problem sticky:eek:

as we test drove an 06 car with around 4k on the clock it may have had the problem, or could have had the fix. either way, i didnt notice anything strange, but then again, i hadnt read the stutter thread.

im sure with using the online car places and the stutter i can get em down on the price, or maybe chuck in some options.

only options i was interested in were the xenons and cd changer. even the salesman said the xenons werent worth it. cd changer on the other hand:thumbup:

i did think in the test drive this car could have some hidden costs, excessive speeding fines and new tyres, but im sure i can stay disciplined:) might even book a track day aswell, as i'll have something a bit more excting than my parents cars, 1.2punto and 1.7dti asstra

cheers for all the help and comments, will keep this up to date with my progress. might not be till next week now!

cheers

How does an under 21's Briskoda Trackday at Castle Combe sound?

A fine example of getting used to the limits of our cars in a safish enviroment :)

Suppose we could let the coffin dodgers (over 21's :p) come along too, show us how its done, last time i was there Jason was Smogging up the track :D

I don't disagree with you there but we don't all have lots of expendable income :)

Oh it's certainly more fun than those cars :)

TBH I wouldn't bother with the cd-changer I'd just budget for an after market head unit that will play mp3 cds as the stock one isn't that great, but the stock speakers sound much better with a decent HU driving them.

I disagree with the salesman on the xenons... they're well worth it IMO :D

you can retro fit xenons for £200~ with a group buy that was on here..

Much cheaper than dealer prices :)

Which GB?

EDIT: found it :)

£200 sounds pretty cheap for new headlights, auto-leveling system and washers...

It's also not the dealer prices as they're a factory fit option... :)

Castle combe sounds good!!

Gotta wait till march for a brand new one, or a week if i want the one in the showroom (more room for bargaining with that one)

the salesman we saw saturday wasnt working today. getting there during the week will be a pain aswell because they'll b shut by the time i get there after work, might have to have an early finish:P

They want

Black looks really nice when clean... but a pain to keep it that way as it shows every little mark.

Silver on the other hand hides things pretty well.

Is your dealer not getting any of the limited edition vRS Furby's in?

Because from what I've read on here they should be available around that time.

  • Author

He mentioned the limited edition one coming out around then, dont think its worth the extra though.

the more i look at pictures on this site and others, the more im getting drawn to the silver

Yeah I picked silver... it appealed to lazy side :)

I must admit I'm tempted by the LE vRS but I really need to get a bigger car :(

:D I'm supposed to be getting a work van. can claim the tax back etc. but that wont b happening now ive test driven a vRS:D

The silver shows off the styling and lines more than the black ive noticed. and it will b getting rather dirty, rather often, so silver makes more sense.

Some would say that's not a good thing, though I actually like the styling of my (silver) vRS.

One thing: given the cars you've been driving: be careful with a lot more torque and power. The vRS handles well, but it's easy to unstick the front wheels, and ASR won't always save you....
