Wireless networks

Featured Replies

My network connection on my Laptop keeps dropping out for no reason

It's been fine all week, but today has been aright pain in the

Have made sure all the wires going into the sender box are secure, have turned it off at the mains, to reset it.

There is no patteren to the drop out, can be min's or seconds

Not sure if it has anything to do with Blueyonder being taken over by Virginmedia.

Hopefully it will work long enough for this to post to load

If you havent changed anything, then i would say it was your line. give it a day or 2 to see if it sorts itself out.

generaly there are "channels" on the wireless network, try changing the channel and see what happens

Is your modem dropping the connection or the laptop ?

if the wireless connection keeps dropping, its quiet possible that someone close to you has bought a wireless router or other device. You will need to change the channel number on the router to an alternative one and see if that helps.

DECT cordless phones, other wireless networks. So many things use the same set of frequencies.

When I was the only one in the area with a wireless network I had no problems, but now around me there are at least six, four of which have no security enabled it can be a pain to connect sometimes.

I agree with Mannyo.

It sounds like somebody is creating 'noise' on the frequency band for 802.11b/g, which could be another wireless thing, or a dect phone or a microwave, or bluetooth etc etc.

Try changing to channel 1 as that is usually one of the quieter ones.

Also a lot of these super fast wireless devices bond multiple channels which can make a right mess of wireless for everyone else :(

Thanks for the info guy's, How do i change channels?

I only seems to happen at the weekends.

You need to go into your routers setup and it should be in there somewhere.....should be about 11 channels

try this too:

uncheck "automaticly connect to non preferred networks" in advanced of the windows wireless networks bit.

otherwise your client machine will drop connection when it sees another A.P within range no mattter how weak.

to log on to the router type its IP in your browser.....http:\\192.168...etc... to find what it is do an ipconfig in a dos box, your routers ip is the gateway. Transmission channels chould be in the wireless section on the router.

Just log into them and change the channel they are on ;)

OK, Adams been round and swaped me to channel 1, seems to have done the trick.

Glad to hear it worked, have had to do mine a few times

Just log into them and change the channel they are on ;)

Suppose I could turn on security and change the router password, that would get whoever it is going. Then print out random things on their shared printers.
