Going backwards....

Featured Replies

...is in the dark cos my reversing lights have stopped working!

I have a Y reg 1.9sdi Classic.

The fuse and bulbs appear Ok - does anyone know what's gone wrong?

Cheers

Could be the reverse light switch - usually fitted to the gearbox oe underneath the car next to the gear linkage (someone with the manual should be able to help better) :D

That's what i've found in previous cars i've had!!! ;)

if you can find the switch , disconnect the plug , and with a paperclip bridge the 2 terminals , if the light is on at the back with the ignition on ,this confirms that the switch is almost certainly the problem

Cheers Chaps:thumbup:

Will have a look over the weekend, it's too dark after work:thumbdwn:

Thanks

iirc it is on the front of the gearbox at the bottom if that helps find it

Ah, yes, thank you all for your help, finally got to the car, once the decorating was done.:(

Found the switch, but it's not the problem!

One of the wires going to the switch has broken, right were where it joins the plug. Going to get new plug and see if it can be joined to the existing wires.

Cheers

You can get the terminals to go into the plug from your dealer.

You can get the terminals to go into the plug from your dealer.

:iagree:

but the cost of the 'lucar' style crimping tool for crimping the terminals may make it prohibitively expensive, may be easier to bodge it together using a plug from the breakers yard with a little bit of the wires still attached, then join them together:)

No need to crimp the terminals.

The terminals come on a piece of wire and can be soldered in.

Thanks guys.

I went to the local VW dealer today as it's miles to the nearest Skoda one.

After some time looking on the parts system, there were many plugs that looked very similar, but we were not sure which was the right one!

Using just the terminals sounds like a good idea. Is there is a part number for these, as it would help the guy at the parts desk:thumbup:

Cheers

The easiest way to find the right one is take the plug in and get them to match a terminal from thier VAS 1978 wiring repair kit. They can then order some in.

Hi

Thank you Lummox, went back to the VW Dealer today (when will there be a Skoda dealer in King's Lynn), and got the plug, and wires, and the cost was a couple of quid.

It should now be a 10 minute job over the weekend

Thanks for your help

Cheers
