I was told that my car 1.9 diesel Felicia, hatch, 1998, face lift model, need's a new rear engine mount. The quote was

to me no! but i live in a country where anything to do with car repairs starts at a 4 ends with a 9 and has another 9 in the middle.

you sure it needs doing?? the diesel engine does move about a lot.

You got it banging and shuddering the car when you slow down?

When it is cold, sometimes it jumps and bucks around the place!! again sometime shudders when taking off in first..... i have checked the clutch and its fine. So i think thats whats causing it!

a shudder is normal, i'd wait until mr MOT fials it before getting excited. worn or missing engine mounts can be a very disturbing experiance, a judder they aint..... the feeling the engine fell out and is slamming about loose is however.

My 1.9D also bucks and jumps on a cold engine like what you're describing. I took it to the local Skoda dealer when it was under warranty and they changed all the engine mounts and put in a new throttle cable but it didn't make much difference. I went back again and they changed the brake servo vacuum hose. That seemed to clear it up for a couple of months but it went back to its old ways again.

I just live with it now and only use moderate throttle openings on a cold engine.

I got a quote from a garage beside where i work and to do the job it would cost me

do it yourself... the rear bottom mount should be about 16 - 20 pounds i reckon for a non vw part.

then the work itself may need a bit of leverage from a second pair of hands - but it is nothing hard to do.
