New owner, looking for ideas

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've just purchased a 2002 elegance estate, 110BHP. Mint condition, seems like a great car. Although I was aiming for a L&K 130bhp, but my budget was holding me back....and i got fed up of waiting for one to fall in my price range :) .

So my question questions to you all are:

Can I retrofit cruise control for any reasonable cost?

I understand the 110 engine is the most 'untuneable' but can i do anything with it?

Any recommendations for toys/upgrades that may be suitable?

Thanks All.

Alan.

Cruise can be retrofitted and somenone on the forum does it I think.

110 Tdi can be remapped to about 145 with no other changes.

Might want uprated susupension, but that is a peronal decision. Aftermarket or the vrs suspension are options.

Great news, in which case, can someone help me out with info on the cruise control and remap?

Octavia-vrs.com for cruise control

The company I used for my remap is no more, however if you do a search on the forum you will come across multiple differnt companies, just choose the one that you will think suits you best.

Cheers, I have sent an email their way.

Has anyone here retrofitted cruise control themselves? I was hoping I could.

Yes some people have retrofitted it, it envolves running a wiring lool through the bulkhead and replacing the stalk, then some vag-com wizardry.

You will find a guide to fitting cruise control to a Golf on Foxy's site here. The procedure is the same for the Octavia. I believe that VRStu or big k will fit cruise control for you - the latter fitted mine.

Thanks Denis,

Any other must have mods, or info on remapping for the 110 engine?

Al.

The 110 is IIRC the most thermally efficient engine that VW had ever made at the time.

You can add a bigger turbo, larger injectors (IIRC from a carvelle or Transporter TDI engine), Front mounted intercooler, not that I ever had problems.

If you want to keep the engine singing happily, one thing that you must do is change the air filter regularly. Skoda say 40k in the book last i looked, but that is IMHO wildly optimistic as mine came out looking like a black soot laden thing.

I changed mine every 10k miles.

Jabba mapped our 110 to a whisker over 160 & its covered over 100,000 miles since then & is still going strong & on the original clutch

You can fit bigger Turbos, Injectors, Intercoolers, the list is endless & power can go over 200 but its a lot of Money & the clutches cant take much more torque

I did cruise on mine following the guide (there's a few differences in where screws are) took about 4 hrs having never done it before & being extreemly careful with the airbag, most difficult bit was getting the wiper arms off!
