Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just thought I should say hello, I have just bought a2001 4x4 estate and am looking forward to some inspiration in 'improving' my car and getting the most out of it over the coming months!

The forum is full of knowledge and I can honestly say you guys seem really willing and capable of helping each other out which is somehow missing in some of the other car forums nowdays!

Welcome to Briskoda and congratulations on a discerning buy. :D

Hi DGW,

Well it was a hard job finding one, i have an a6 quattro which I have to sell and wanted something that would allow me to still have reliability but also the ability to tune easily. There are a few things I will do sooner rather than later such as the brakes as am used to 321mm on the audi. The other one I will do sooner rather than later is a chip, whats the jabba one like, am tending towards them (know of them thro the vw scene so know they are good), whats yours show on the RR?

Any suggestions for good insurance companys that are 'chip friendly'?

Hi & welcome to the discerning club of Octy 4x4 owners

Jabba IMO are the best, you should see arond 220 bhp :) :)

re brakes, quick fix to Improve would be better pads (my preference are Ferrodo DS2500) & dot 5.1 fluid.

For any decent sized brake conversion make sure it will fit behind the 16" wheels. Im running AP 4 pots with 335x32 discs built by Godspeed but that needs 17" wheels as a minimum.

Ian has also squeezed AP 6 pots behind a std Octy VRS 17" wheel :)

re Insurance try Chris Knott, they Insure my 4x4 & thats 356 bhp (bit more than a chip but all work by Jabba) They also give Briskoda discount

Stuart,

I was particularly impressed by the power you are putting out, hows it handle? so you recon jabba are the way ahead? and thats 220 without any other mods? is that their custom chip then?

Thanks for the insurance tip, will check them out especially if they give a club discount.

Im gonna sort wheels first (then brakes) as need to do a tyre anyway so am just trying to decide if i should go for 17s or 18s, i would prefer 18s but may concede (and go for the cheaper 17s). Have found some 17s that are running a 40 profile depth and am a bit worried they will make the arches look huge as the car is already raised, what do you guys recon?

With 17's you really want 225/45 tyres, 40 profile will look wrong and ruin the ride as well as causing considerable speedo error.

Mine handles really well but Ive spent a lot on modding suspension, anti roll bars, bushes etc etc

Jabba link here, they are my favourites & have tuned my cars for many years. there are other good companies around, I just tend to stick with who I know & trust. Jabba Sport - Motor Sport

Custom map IMO is better every time, the car goes on the rolling road & it can hi-lite any other little niggles that you dont even know about

Re wheels etc I agree with Eddys comments. I went for 17's as I still wanted some tyre protection to the wheel. as for height it dosent handle too badly on the std set up but it def benefits from being lowered. I went the Kw variant 3 route but they are expensive. It def looks better lower

FocusZtec managed what I believe was quite a good suspension mod on his 4x4, might be worth PM ing him for details

cheers guys for your opinions, well jabba chip it is then! As for tyres had a feeling 40 wouldnt be enough on the depth. so 225 rather than 205s for width thats what i run on my current 18s...they just start to get expensive:< any trye recommendations?

also are there any arch issues lowering the octy with 18s on?

The variant 3s are awesome, i have them on my mk2 golf, just criminally expensive, i used to be able to get cheap fk stuff, recon i moght try and use my old contact again!

Welcome to the site, I too have a Octy 4x4, I love it, glad I got it rather than a VRS.

I had Mine "Improved" And it was the best thing I have ever done, put a huge smile on my face, I personally don't recomend upgrading brakes unless you go into silly BHP. been up the hartz Mountains today, and it was ecellent in the snow, esp with snow tyres.

You can fit 205/50 to 17's but they're more expensive than 225/45. On 18's you will want 225/40. I run 18's and yes the tyres are expensive.

Eddy, you haven't told him what power you're running..... go on, make his mouth water ;)

 ok, around 450bhp.

I am so gonna be persuaded to 'improve' my car!!!! I lost inspiration with my audi (a 2.7twin turbo putting out a pathetic 230ish bhp) problem was tuning them is sooooo expensive. Having had several golf gtis (mk1s and 2s) i know the tuning potential of the 1.8t engine (considered a 1.8t before getting a g60 engine due to cost) so this coupled with the 4x4 meant the octy was the best choice by far. I like VRS models but having had a quattro, i would find it very hard to not have a 4 wheel drive nowdays. I am just in awe of the bhp figures you guys are running, what are you doing 0-60 and 1/4 mile in Eddy?

Just out of interest is there many stock parts left or is everything uprated?

Thanks for the wheel advice too everyone!

I don't know what the 0-60 or 1/4 miles times are as they haven't been tested, however 'kills' include a C4S, RS6 and F430.

Not many stock parts remain although the standard engine is very strong, only the valves, pistons and rods have been changed as far as engine internals are concerned.

well Eddy i think we can seriously say your car is fast.........really fast!!!! Well i would love to have seen their faces!!!

I am amazed thats all you have had to change engine internal wise tho i assume a big fat turbo is sitting in the engine bay?!?!?

Do you guys ever meet up throughout the year?

well all i can say is you must have a big smile on your face everytime you turn her on!! Does the car hold its everyday driveability? and is the mpg terrible or can you still get double figures?

well all i can say is you must have a big smile on your face everytime you turn her on!! Does the car hold its everyday driveability? and is the mpg terrible or can you still get double figures?

I use it everyday and find it very easy to drive, clutch is easy to use, low speed manouvering is fine etc.. mpg is isn't great but it's not terrible, on my commute it's somewhere around low to mid 20's.

next meet I'll be at is the cat'n'fiddle next Sunday... you should come up Eddy and let me have a drive ;) it's not that far from you!

sweedish, check out the north west meets section for this one :)

well im really impressed Eddy as so often is the case tuned cars arent that great to drive, i knew the octy would be a good platform to start with!

Thanks for the offer sharkrider, as soon as i sort out a few bits on my car (ie not stock anymore) i will def be up for going to a meet or two!
