Featured Replies

does anybody have a fabia stealth shelf??

what are they like?? i'm thinking about getting one so i can tick some 6x9 speakers in....

I dont know what the one for the fabia is like. But i had one for my old car and it was very good quality. I bought it from Halfords and cost

I've just order one from Auto Acoustics. :) Can't wait for it to arrive. Theres a couple of designs and a number of different colours to choose from. They will even cut the holes too!

Skoda Fabia 5dr (00/W on)

Ordered it on Monday morning.

I'll post up some piccies once it arrives etc

:D

no!

don't do it!

6x9's are ****!

I wouldn't do it purely for the fact that some loser ch@v will see them and think 'I'll have em'. They are also shouting 'Theres probably a sub in the boot and possibly an expensive stereo too!!'

If I change speakers I stick to decent quality components and a sub. No one need ever know :)

Surely the idea of a stealth shelf is that they would be hidden?

:iagree:

Not many I've seen are hidden, but yeah they can be covered with audio carpet. Most of them I've seen are literally 6x9's on a shelf.

Well the one I've ordered the speakers are completely hidden, and I've specified the the colour to be as near to the standard one as poss.

The people who make stealth shelves design them with the same contours and colors as an original shelf. You would struggle to notice the difference walking past the car.

Mine should be here tomorrow!!!!

6x9 holes pre cut...............as for 6x9's being ****......have ya tried getting any 8" round speeeekers (not components) recently???

I've got Infinity Kappa's and apparently they are ok.

Mine too ! ordered some kappas... wish everything would hurry up !!!!!!

8" round speakers? components are speakers, lol

6x9's are a compromise, and will never ever sound as good as even a decent two-way set up, never mind a component set up

Don't know quite what you were getting at there..........taking the p*ss coz I said "round" ?? Kenwood and Alpind used to do some very good 8" three way coaxials which were round in shape. The sound quality was superb and, much as I didn't really want 6x9's, I didn't want components either........as you say....the 6x9's are a compromise, but I'm absolutely positive that they will be better than the standard fit rear speakers.

I'm not an audiophile and if the stereo sounds "pretty good", that will do for me......I'm not out to break dB records, so I'm positive that the Infinity Kappa 6x9's will be just fine....thank you very much. :)

6x9's and coaxials are pish, you dont sit in the back do you, so why uprate the speakers in the back, get some good speakers up front, amp them and they will blow your 6x9's away

Aaaah of course......all the top display cars only have speakers in the front don't they? That's obviously the way forward!!

Like I say.......I'm not fussed so long as it sounds reasonable and I'm sure it will.

Not trying to start an argument.....some of us are obviously more bothered about audio perfection than others.....that's all.

And....to kinda use a response that I got once when I voiced an opinion on someone elses mods.............I think you'll find it's me that's going to be sitting in my car, so why worry about it??

(I'm having a laff by the way)

One of the other reasons I haven't modded the front speakers yet is the hassle of doing the job. Getting the door trim off is a pain in the **** and then once again, speaker choice is limited due to mounting depth, etc. Oh sure....you can spend time and money getting the doors and speaker mounts modified and have a superb set of components in the front, but to be blunt......I couldn't be arsed!!! By the time I get round to spending that much time and effort on mods, I'll have sold the car!! :)

Be aware.......The Kappa's are 2 ohm speakers.....make sure your amp can run these.........most head unit amps will only survive with 4-8 ohm speakers. :)

And.......you may end up chasing delivery of your shelf.........I was told, Monday, then Wednesday and now it's next Monday.

Ah right... The speakers arrived today... pleasantly surprised to find they come with a cross over.

poop I forgot to check impedance of the speakers... I was going to run them of the HU. I'll do some checking first.

I have changed the front speakers and I've never know such a faff on. The next time I want to change any door components in a Skoda I'll take it to the pros.

My point exactly! :)

New shelf with holes already cut in...........remove old shelf, fit new shelf, connect speakers to amp already fitted.!! Easy eh?
