CEL on and down to 3 cylinders

Featured Replies

For a while tonight, tootling along at walking pace for a few minutes in traffic, then the engine start's firing on 3 cylinders, a couple of seconds later the CEL comes on. Stop the car, switch off ignition, switch on ignition and start it , CEL off pulls fine, splutters onto 3 cyls again for a few seconds then runs normally.

I know the question is like asking to find a needle in a haystack, but anyone else had this on a mk2 vRS (2.0T)? not sure if it's fuel as it's got vpower in, just wondering if the mk2's are going to start having flakey coil packs?

I could do with a 220miles vag-com cable so I could get Stu to check for fault codes :D

Does sound a bit like a coil pack, although i guess the crown of a spark could have gone funny too.

I know a spark had actually damaged the electrode somehow on the plug, and once replaced the brothers car was happy.

Of course that was an older car without injectors, coil packs etc etc to go wrong too.

Hope somebody can help you.

I have changed a few coil packs on the Golf GTis with the same engine so could be that.

No where as common as the old ones though.
